"Theo, remember how much you love me?" Maya asks slowly, a smile creeping onto her face.
We're all in the same spots 5 minutes later, after Theo has finished his speech on why Maya and I are terrifying together.
He looks hesitant before he says, "Debatable, but sure."
"Ok, first of all, rude. And second of all, since you love me so much you should make us breakfast." She turns to me and adds, "Theo makes the best breakfast."
He looks at Maya skeptically. "Give me one good reason why I should make breakfast for you two?" He asks.
Maya sighs. "Because I asked nicely for once. Oh, and Cameron has never had it," she responds exasperatedly.
He looks between the two of us, Maya with a hopeful face and me with my normal bored expression. "Fine," he says with a sigh.
He turns around and starts grabbing pans and ingredients while muttering under his breath. He's basically stomping around the kitchen like a child and I chuckle at his behavior.
"So, Maya where is your mentee this morning?" Theo asks while putting a frying pan on the stove.
"She's asleep still," Maya responds.
"Wait, you're a mentor? What level are you both in?" I interject.
"We're both level three's. And yeah, I'm mentoring the other new recruit, and Theo's mentoring a level 2 that's been here for a year," Maya explains.
"Wow, you've both been here for three years?" I ask because I don't know why I was put a level above them.
Maya nods.
"Don't feel guilty just because you're a level 4 and are new, I'm sure you deserve it," Theo calls over his shoulder. I guess that's one of the things Cole complained about this morning.
"Wait, you're a level 4?" Maya asks incredulously. I nod. "Damn, girl. You must have skills."
I lightly shrug. "So what's the other new recruit like?" I ask.
"Her name is Phoebe, she seems really sweet. I'm kind of worried for her though." Maya sighs and a worried look passes over her face. "She's really smart, like genius-level smart, but she doesn't do violence. She's not super innocent or anything like that, but I just worry she won't be able to handle this job."
"Maybe she'll surprise you," Theo says, making sure he's still a part of the conversation.
Maya shakes her head a little and turns back to me before asking, "So what room are you in? We're definitely hanging out at some point."
Theo suddenly bursts out laughing. And I mean, drops his spatula and falls on the floor laughing. He crawls up so he's on his knees with his hands on the island while Maya and I stare at him like he has three heads.
