The rain hits the lonely streets of the city, creating an ominous feel for those still wandering around at this hour. Never-ending fog crowds the towering buildings, further amplifying the mysterious vibe of it all. However, the neon lights shining throughout the whole city set a whole new tone to the night.

"I thought cities were the one place that didn't sleep at night," I wonder out loud pacing through the nearly empty streets. The small puddles ripple smoothly under my even steps in my old beat-up sneakers. My clear umbrella shields me from the light shower but allows me to look up at the foggy sky while taking in the smell the rain creates as it hits the pavement.

"Probably because of the rain."

Honestly, I don't even think I would be out now if it weren't for my new neighbors arguing so loud at 12 am. After contemplating whether I should ask them to quiet down or take a little walk, it's obvious I chose the latter. I have always loved the rain, so I wasn't really bothered. As long as it didn't start storming, I was at peace while strolling through the streets.

Should I stop at a cafe? I'm quite thirsty. My eyes begin to wander between the captivating neon lights and the reflection they draw onto the wet cement. I pass by a few bars and see quite a bit of people look like they were enjoying their time as their boisterous laughter and chatter could be faintly heard from outside.

I can't wait until I have established myself enough here to go out with friends without a care in the world.

Just as I was about to forget about it and turn around to go back to my apartment, a bright red sign across the street catches my attention.

I'll just grab myself some hot cocoa and head home.

As I cross the sidewalk, I take long strides to step on the white stripes which probably makes me look childish to any bystander. It's a weird habit I picked up whenever my family would take me to the city. I stand under the tarp covering the entrance and close my umbrella before stepping into the building. When I finally enter, I am greeted by the warmth rushing to my chilly cheeks and nose. The bell chimes on the door, causing the baristas to look in my direction.
