Shizuo Tsukiko was born into a family of knights. It was their duty to protect the Village in the Snow, the place he called his home. It was a small town located in the valley between two mountains, it wasn’t always small though; it started out as a great city built around a palace of ice. During the war, the entire city had been destroyed. It was often snowing, even when it wasn’t it remained cold. People very rarely left the village unless they were on a high priority mission for the village king. Ever since the Dark Army had been taken down, not even his father left anymore.

“Another day, I guess.” mumbled the young boy as he rose from his cot.

Shizuo had been attending a special academy since he was a child. It was centered around training children of the noble families. He spent his years studying the history of the Knights of the Frozen Palace. Not to mention constantly reviewing battle formations. He didn’t see the point in it all anymore. The chances of another war were slim to none. He headed for the bathroom with a clouded mind. It felt like he was living every day just the same as the last.

A few minutes later he headed off for Fuyu Academy, it had been named after the general that lead the knight in their last battle. Her name was Akiko Fuyu, she was revered among them as the bravest woman alive. She had been the last one standing that day, the day of the final battle between the Dark Army and the Knights of the Frozen Palace. They had defeated all but the highest ranking leader of their opponent; Hayato Nakamura. He was the most feared person that had participated in the war. Fuyu had taken him down at the sacrifice of her own life.

“Wonder what she was like…” he yawned as he turned a corner.

The streets were coated with thick layers of snow. With every step he took the white fluff crunched beneath his feet. The Academy was within sight, it was easily the tallest building in the village. It loomed above him like a mountain. He closed the distance within minutes, stepping lightly up the wooden stairs. He walked into the building, blinking his eyes to adjust to the change in light. He saw a few of his classmates standing in the corridor waiting for him.

“Hey there Shizuo!” a pale boy called.

“Morning, Akira” he replied

“How’s it going?” another, taller, boy asked him.

“Just another day, you know? How about you Hiroshi?” he replied

“Great I guess. You really should stop looking at things that way you know” his friend half whispered.

Shizuo shrugged his friend’s words off. The third of the group of friends, a scrawny shorter girl stood sheepishly amongst them. She didn’t meet his gaze as he looked down at her. She was his age but still acted like a child at times. She often hid behind her friends when confronted with danger. The small girl very rarely spoke.

“What no words today, Izumi?” Akira asked her

“Y-yes…” she mumbled pushing a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

Shizuo smiled placing a hand on her head, “Enough with the cute girl act Yoshida.” he muttered.
