I was surrounded by a thick dense fog. Fire was everywhere. I breathed in smoke with every deep breath I took while I ran. Who I was running from, I didn't know, but sparks of red and yellow were being sent towards me. Then I saw him. The man in the the black robes. He was wearing a hood that came over his head covering everything but the wicked smile that was on his face. Was he the one I was running from? I didn't know. He rose his hand and I saw red and yellow sparks pop in his palm. I knew it was over for me; I was going to die right there. He brought his hand back, preparing for the attack. I was cornered and couldn't make a move. I squeezed my eyes closed and jolted forward at the man.

I shot straight up out of bed, drench with a cold sweat. I wiped my forehead with the back of my hand and took a deep breath in, then let it out. That's the fifth time I've had the dream this month. It was always the same dream: I was running from someone or something and the man in the black robes and hood stop me. He has something in his hand... electric fire? Whatever it was, he pulls his arm back as if to throw it at me and I close my eyes and run at him, then I wake up. I've been using the Internet to try and find out the meaning of the dream. I've literally turned up with nothing. I mean, I can't say I was surprised. I can't imagine how many people have dreamt of a man throwing a fireball-thingy at them in the fog.

I got out of bed and got my clothes out of the laundry basket sitting on my floor. I find putting my laundry away is an inconvenience since I have to expend more effort to get the laundry once it's put away, rather than just picking what I want out of a laundry basket. Yes I know, I'm extremely lazy. I picked out my blue button down shirt with small white dots on it, khaki pants, and a grey v-neck t-shirt. I had to look semi-presentable for the first day of school...at a new school. Darwin High School didn't sound like a bad school from what I've heard about it. It's in the same little town in Salem, Massachusetts that we just moved to six days ago.

Dad, mom and I used to live in New York City before mom died. She was an actress, nothing big and fancy though; she preferred to be an extra. She was always so selfless. Dad was working as a chemist in a research facility that tried to make new elements. I guess you could say my dad is a HUGE nerd when it comes to science and math. I guess that's where I got my love of learning from. My mom... well, she wasn't that great at academics, but she was very gifted in the performing arts. She had a beautiful soprano voice and she could play almost any instrument that you placed in front of her.

One day she just didn't come home... the police found her on the side of the road. Lifeless and dead. Her heart was sliced in half and all of her insides were... I'm sorry. It's hard to talk about... he insides were out of her body, as if someone had reached down her throat and pulled them out her mouth. Police don't know what happened due to how her body was not cut open. Her skin was perfectly intact. How her heart was sliced in half and everything else, we don't know. Some of the doctors tried to say that she started to spontaneously combust, but it didn't complete the combustion. I don't believe any of it. How someone could kill a woman so sweet, loving and caring, I don't know.

I opened my door and smelled the one thing that could make me happier right now: the smell of fresh sizzling bacon. Dad probably knew that it was going to be tough today, and what better way to start off your day than with some delicious crispy bacon? I made my way to the bathroom and turned the shower on. I stayed in for a little too long... I was thinking about mom.

"Bryan! Hurry up bud! You're gonna end up missing the bus!" I heard my dad yell from downstairs. I pulled back the shower curtain and looked at the clock. 6:25. Great. My bus is scheduled to come at 6:35. I stumbled out of the shower and got dressed faster then I thought I could. I flew down the stairs and sat down at the breakfast table, shoving a fork full of eggs in my mouth followed by a bite of toast.

"Woooaaaah there! Slow down Bry! You wouldn't want to get a stomachache on your big first day, now would you?" said Dad as he went to the garage to get some water bottles to put in my book bag.

"Yeah yeah yeah, I know dad" I said with a mouth full of eggs. I swallowed and drank a large gulp of the apple juice on the table.

I glanced at the clock while I ate like a savage. 6:32. I guzzled down the last bit of apple juice and took the piece of toast to go. I went to the door and slid on my indoor soccer cleats. Yes, I know I'm going to school and not soccer practice, I just like the way they feel. Not to mention, they're made in really bright colors. Bright colored shoes have always been my thing. I just can't wear a pair of plain black sneakers if I even ended up wearing sneakers somehow. I slung my backpack over one shoulder and gave my dad a hug goodbye, trying not to get bread crumbs on his work shirt. I walked out the front door to see the bus coming down the street.

"Have a good day Bry!" he yelled out the door.

"I'll try!" I yelled back to him.

Boy, did I have anything but a good day.
