A bell jingled as I pushed open the door to the bookstore. It was love at first sight. Before walking inside, I expected to see the consequences of society's obsession with modernization. Though, this wasn't the case. There were no metal bookshelves or harsh fluorescent lighting. I didn't see smooth white tile floors or high school ceilings. Instead, the walls were lined with dark auburn bookshelves and warm hung lights. On my left, a staircase led to a large balcony that contained people in seats, and along with extra bookshelves. I paced across the wooden floors, making my way further into the store, past a seating area,  and noticed it was failing another one of my expectations; a clerk. I walked over towards the books to check out the selections. I peeked at a couple of them, dragging my fingertips along the spines. I continued my way down the aisle and turned, now passing each of the rows, before I heard a squeaking noise. On the other side of the lined-up shelves, I noticed a presence. There was a tall figure pushing a cart of books,  that were to be set in their rightful places. It was a woman. My eyes scanned bottom to the top taking in all of her features. She was wearing dark shoes, with black jeans. She wore a tucked-in black button-up, with two of the top ones undone, revealing her ebony collarbones, and a small chain. The sleeves of the shirt were rolled up, and on her forearms were tattoos that I wasn't able to make out. She wore a single ring, on the hand that was grasping a book of the cart. She reached for the shelf, before slightly turning her head full of hair, and her eyes caught mine staring into hers. The eye contact lasted for a split second before the sound of a bell rung throughout the store, and she rushed to the front. I left.
