It all started on the cloudy, yet satisfying spring morning of April 17th. Like all Saturday mornings, I spend hours laying in bed going through all my social media and apps that need checking. You know, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Clash of clans, the usual. Except that day was different than all others, it was the spring formal at my high school. As the so called "basic" girl, of course I was going and of course I had a date. Step one was to go get my hair done. I chose a simple thing, but definitely needed. I dragged myself out of bed, and walked into my kitchen to make some breakfast, even though it was already afternoon. As expected, I got a phone call from my best friend Jenna. "SUMMER ARE YOU EXCITED!" I hear her yell. "Of course! Why wouldn't I be?" "Good point" she adds. "I'm headed to your place I'll be there in 10, Kay Hun?" Jenna says. "See you then" I guess what I didn't realize was that there were still a lot of things I had to get done before Jenna picked me up for our hair appointment. I rushed to my bathroom to shower.
About 15 minutes later Jenna arrives at my house. I grab my bag and run out the door. The day really sped up because next thing I knew it was 6:47pm. My boyfriend Blake was picking me up at 7:00. I had gotten everything ready, and was almost ready to go. The stress was really getting to me. Who knew that preparing for a school dance would be so tiring. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. I hurried over and eagerly opened the door. Strangely, it was not Blake, nor Jenna, not even one of my parents. A lady looking as if she was in her early twenties was in front of me, she had a big smile and was quite surprised to see somebody so fancy open the door. About 30 seconds had passed by, and I still haven't said anything. It was a very awkward moment. Her smile was starting to fade and she began to have a confused facial expression. I processed the moment and decided to say something "umm not to be weird or anything, but who the hell are you?" I ask. "Oh I'm sorry, my name is Natalie Truman. I am the head of the nature association, I had just recently visited your school, Cascade High, and lots of teachers, along with the principal recommended you. We are hosting a program called the getaway. It's a year long project, and we have a group of students come with us into the wilderness to spend the year, we provide everything for you. I hear that you are fascinated with biology, do you think you would maybe consider the program?" I stare at her for a few seconds, realizing what an amazing opportunity this would be. "Oh wow, that sounds really cool. But, how do I know this is real?" "Well, we are hosting a small meeting for the students and their parents to come and hear about the program. It's tomorrow at 12:00pm. We would love for you to come." She hands me a flyer. I look at it. Seems like a real deal. "I think I can come to the meeting." I say. "Great! I will see you then. Have a good dance Summer!" She walks to her car and drives off. What a weird situation, and how strange that she called me by my name.
