*Disclaimer: there will not be warnings of eating disorders or mental abuse after this chapter. Please be warned! If this is something that bothers you I would not recommend reading. I am writing this story to bring awareness to mental abuse and eating disorders. Although I personally have never had an eating disorder, I am going to try my best to write it by looking up as much information as I can. Please don't be too harsh if it doesn't seem like it, but I would appreciate any help.*

Madison was so thankful that her family was here cheering on. She loved having the fans support, but having her family here meant the world to her. She wasn't able to see them in the crowd but just knowing they were there meant everything.
Today they weren't competing though unfortunately and it was another practice day. What Madison wasn't expecting was coach Mark's stark contrast in his attitude from the day before. It also looked like he had something on his clipboard as well but the brunette couldn't tell what it was.
"Come on girls, gather around," Coach Mark talks loudly without yelling as he then takes the package that was on his clipboard making Madison's eyes widen. "Now, does anyone want to tell me whose these were?"
Everyone was silent.
In his hand was the yellow and green colored package with the sour patch kids on it. Everyone also knew whose it was even the coach but
"Alright, since no one is obviously going to speak up. Everyone runs five miles around the gym."
"Coach, come on," Melanie exclaimed. "That's not fair and we need all the practice we can get since we go on tomorrow."
"Well, the person who ate these last night should have thought about that. Instead they were being selfish. They are a selfish person."
"The guys volleyball team was walking outside our hallway last night. Maybe it was one of their's."
"I don't care. Run ten laps around the gym."
"It was me," Madison spoke up not wanting the team to suffer for her mistake.
"I knew it was, Metcalf. I thought you had learned your lesson by now, apparently not. Madison run ten."
Madison took off running but she could hear her teammates arguing with coach Mark. She thought that coach Mark had been done with this. He had talked to her in particular when she was seventeen about needing to maintain a certain weight. Telling her to count her calories and making sure she stays at a certain limit. Madison remembered asking Melanie and Sophia if he did those things with her and only Melanie had said yes. With Sophia it was only some things. It hadn't happened since then though so she thought he was over it but apparently not.
"What is she doing?" Coach Lindsay asked Mark in frustration.
"What does it look like? She got in trouble and she has to live with the punishment."
"This isn't regular practice, Mark!" Lindsay said as she started to raise her voice. "This is the damn Olympics! And I will not have Madison running laps when she needs to practice her routines. Madison, stop running and come back," Lindsay yelled to her athlete even though she was only on her fifth lap.
Madison stopped running and nodded her head. Coach Lindsay had no idea how much of a life saver she was right now. Madison could have easily ran ten laps but she also knew how important it was for her to practice her routines. She could work out or run on her own time. It wasn't like it mattered so much anyway. The night before after she ate her sour patch kids - she made herself throw up. It was gross but she felt like it was something she had to do.
Madison made sure to chalk up her hands and her thighs before she began her bars routine. She leaped onto the lower bar and began her routine as she heard her teammates cheering her on. Madison began her routine with a kip. The bars was where Madison shined. Always practicing to do better. To be better. And her hard work paid off every time.
When she finished her routine she dismounted, landing straight on her feet as she put both hands in the air with a smile on her face. Her teammates clapped and Melanie came up and hugged her. Even her teammate Lizzy, who she wasn't that close with, congratulated her. But more so in a grudging way.
It was almost four hours late when Coach Mark called them all to the front.
"Alright, that's all for today," Mark told the girls and Coach Lindsay and Erin left as they high-fived the girls, telling them to get a good night sleep.
"Need I remind you ladies of the list of foods you cannot eat during the Olympics. I printed out some copies for all of you. It would be in your best interest if you abide by them," he told his team as he gave them the papers while giving a pointed look to Madison specifically making her cower slightly.
Madison noticed that he had waited until after Coach Lindsay and Erin left the building to give them this speech and she wondered why. All of the coaches were supposed to be on the same page about everything. That's how it's always been.
So why did Coach Mark wait until after they left?
*
"Okay, am I the only one who thought it was weird that Coach Mark was scolding us when Coach Lindsay and Erin weren't there and then after they left he waited to hand us these stupid papers?" Madison asked her roommate Melanie.
"No," Mel shook her head as she was putting her hair in a top knot bun. "I thought it was really odd. It's like he's trying to hide all of this..."
"But the question is why?" Madison said as she furrowed her eyebrows.
"I honestly have no idea. But how stupid is this list? He wants us to count our calories and stay within these food categories and snacks. Which I'm fine with but to count our calories? As your boyfriend would say 'that's bloody insane,'" she said in a fake British accent making Madison laugh slightly.
"Yeah..." Madison said quietly and closing herself off completely now. "I'm going to go to the bathroom."
As Madison thought about her coaches words from earlier, she had spent an hour in the bathroom looking at herself in the mirror. Analyzing every curve, any fat that was on her body. She knew that her stomach was getting to be a little pudgy but she hadn't realized how the five pounds she gained from her latest vacation visiting her family did to her body. She turned to the side and grabbed whatever fat she could with her fingers, noting that was how much she had to lose.
"Okay?" Melanie said as her eyebrows furrowed in confusion why Madison was so quick to change the subject now. Instead of her going to their bathroom they have in their room she was walking to their door.
In reality, she didn't want her roommate hearing her throw up her food from earlier. Because if she did then she would start to worry and start asking questions that she didn't want to answer. No one could know. Not now. She had to get through the Olympics first even if that meant making herself throw up her food to get in her coach's good graces and win this for them.
After Madison left, Melanie shrugged her shoulders and went back to watching the show Friends as she made a mental note to not count her calories. Melanie always thought that Coach Mark was a drama queen, especially during the Olympics. She just hoped that Madison wasn't taking what he said today seriously.

I am so sorry for the really late update! I was going to earlier but then I just got behind and things came up in my life. Thank you to everyone who was patient. Sorry for the shortish chapter, but they will be longer.
Why do you think Coach Mark waits until after Coach Lindsay & Erin leave?
