After homeschooling for the past 3 years it was about time your mother allowed you and Lola to attend Hogwarts. It was a shame that you had missed 3 years but mother was so hesitant to send you. She's constantly worrying, not so much about you as she says you're more independent, but when it comes to Lola she always treats her like she was spawn of a golden egg or she was a precious jewel, when in reality, she's quite the opposite; always taking credit for your good ideas, your cleaning and jokes, coping your every move, yet she unfairly gets the attention.
When you speak to my mother she just dismisses it and tells you that 'You're being ridiculous' or that 'Lola has a lot of needs'. She doesn't have malicious intent, but you can't help but want to show your mother that you are in fact equal with Lola, and this year will prove just that. Your father isn't too dissimilar. They both practically kiss her feet as she walks past. Some may say its just jealously, but for the inequality of treatment, it's just wanting that same level of respect. Lola gets a parade for bare necessities while you only just get a pat on the back.
The Oatenham family is a long line of powerful wizards, every single generation has been Gryffindor, and that tradition is expected to be carried through to you and Lola. Your mother however came from a different background, most of her family were Ravenclaw, there were a few Slytherin's who slipped through the cracks, your mother being one of them. All pure blooded, that whole side of the family cared so damn much about blood status, that's why you don't talk to them much, because your father is a half-blood, making you impure as they say.
Lola and you, have been home schooled for a while. Before that you were living in the muggle world which is quite a taboo subject amongst wizards, so you were going to have to keep that one quiet. You just wanted to fit in. Truth be told, You'd never even stepped into a school, and only ever watched muggle shows on TV about high school.

Half past 7 and you were awoken to a very anxious and excited Lola, pacing up and down the corridor shouting at the parents to 'be more prepared'. You don't know how she gets away with it, if you ever spoke to them like that you would be cursed into the next life.
You layed in bed for another 15 minutes while your eyes adjusted to the rising sun which was now pouring and filling the room with light- that and the fact it was so warm in your bed. You pulled back the cover and were surrounded with a chill from the sudden temperature change. You slowly sat up and climbed out of bed, putting on slippers because the floor was FREEZING.
You made my way downstairs to see that everyone had already eaten breakfast, or were too anxious to. You stared at the dirty bowl sitting on the ledge next to the sink, mother obviously caught you looking "don't worry y/n, there's plenty of time before you leave, what would you like me to make for you?"
"Don't worry about it, I'll just make some eggs." You appreciated the offer, but you would rather make it for yourself. You preferred your food cooked not cremated.
After the eggs were beaten and eaten, you went back upstairs to do some final last minute packing and getting ready for the day. As much as you complain about your family, you really will miss them when you go to Hogwarts. You know that you will send each other letters and see them again at Christmas. You've never really hung out with anyone else besides them for such a long period of time, it would be strange to not be with them for so long.
You slipped into some black leggings and an your dads old, oversized Hogwarts hoodie - as you wouldn't need to change into Hogwarts robes until on the train.
Since you didn't know your house yet, your robes were just plain with the school emblem on the left breast.
Lola was still shouting your parents ears off so you decided it would be wise to go on a walk to just get out of that situation. You really don't want to be on the bad side of Lola, she's very loud and overwhelming, plus she would never let it go.
You gaze around your room attempting to notice if anything looked like it needed to be taken with you. You notice a piece of parchment on your desk.
'Heard you're going to Hogwarts, see you soon'
was all that was written on the inside. No envelope. No name. No address. Just 8 little words and a strange symbol.
As you pick up the parchment to examine it, a little butterfly soars through the window, landing on your hand.
It's wings flashed colours of crimson red with a few blue and black spots here and there.
You held your arm out of the window to allow the insect an exit, yet it didn't move.
You perched with your arm hanging out the window for at least 30 seconds before a gust of wind came, which encouraged the butterfly to leave.Staring out the glass panes, you had forgotten how big the grounds of your house were, and had never really admired them in that way before. The green travelled for acres and a little stream followed, leading to a large lake at the end.
Your house was extremely large, and isolated. You lived in the wizarding world but had never really visited the hustle and bustle of real Wizard towns.
You took one more look around your room, and breath of the fresh, clean, morning air before heading back downstairs into the migraine causing argument.
Mother was running around like a headless chicken gathering Lola's final items, while she stood there tapping her foot. Father was standing not too far behind with his arms crossed and a sorry look on his face. "Please no need to rush my darling, if need be we will just go faster in the car"
Father sometimes understands that Lola takes it too far but he never has the guts to stand up to her, it's actually quite sad, you feel for him because he gets dismissed just like you, except for the fact that he can't handle it.
"Calm down Lawrence, I'm finished now, both of you get your stuff and get in the car. You will not miss that train girls," Mum hurried you along, shooing you out of the door "go on, hurry, hurry, hurry." By this point mother was lecturing Dad about his time keeping skills and how he should've had the bags in the car way before we were about to leave.
WASSUP SQUAD. Okay so this chapter is slow bc it's kinda introducing people but PLEASE leave feedback, it would be greatly appreciated!! Also I might add a character page like with pictures and names so it makes it easier to picture, not sure yet
