"You've gotten so damn small...you eating?" My sister remarked through the glass as a smirk rolled onto her face.
"You've gotten so damn big...you must be eating." I muttered.
She must've thought her little jokes were gonna make me laugh. But my face stayed blank. Like it always did when I came to see her.
"I am serious Nessa...you not lookin well. You must be back on them damn drugs again. You on that shit again? Crack? Or was it cocaine? I don't remember what the paramedic's said it was when you fizzing out yo' mouth." She said slyly.
I took a gulp and met my eyes with hers.
"For somebody who sitting behind bars, got beady beads doing jumping jacks around they cornrolls, and talking to me through a screen dirtier then they ass crack...you sure do got a lot to fucking say."
My sister smacked her lips together and let out a small laugh
"Ouuuu. I be forgetting you "bouijee" now. You living wit auntie in that big house and don't know how to fucking act. Don't forget where you came from Janessa. Don't let that shit go to your head."
I physically couldn't take her in my presence any longer. I grabbed my book bag and stood up.
"Don't go now...keep talking yo shit lil sis."
"Don't call me that Desiree...you don't get to call me that nomo."
My sister's expression formed into a frown. She moved her tongue around in her mouth and bit her cheek.
"Why you still come see me? Out of everybody in the family...you the only one who still comes. Why?"
I placed my book bag over my shoulder before turning to look at her once more.
"Because I know granny would want me to. That's the only reason." I say dryly. I head towards the exit doors, motioning for the security guard to let me through.
"I never wanted this Nessa! I am sorry mane! I am sorry!" I hear my sister scream. I halt as my throat burns.
Don't cry. Don't cry. Don't cry.
