Dream glanced at the piece of parchment paper that contained the information on his next target. Being an assassin wasn't necessarily an ideal job but the pay was good. His client had offered a shit ton of money if he was successful. This job was worth a lot, he couldn't afford to fuck it up.

"The king", he scoffed, "such a pompous asshole."

He rolled up the parchment before placing it into his bag. Someone knocked on the door before entering the room.

"Where the hell are you headed off to now?", Sapnap said with a hearty laugh.

Dream rolled his eyes and glared. "None of your damn business."

He had been Dream's best friend and ally for many years. He had saved his life in the midst of battle. Dream owed Sapnap his life but all he wanted was friendship.

He punched Dream softly in his arm before handing him a small vial filled with a dark purple liquid.

"Can't forget this, might be important in your mission."

Dream snatched the vial out of his hands before placing it carefully into his bag. He pushed past Sapnap trying to get out the door.

"Hold on", he said, blocking his exit. "You can't leave without a hug."

"Are you serious?"

He nodded as a big grin spread across his face. Dream sighed and reluctantly shuffled forward before Sapnap wrapped his arms around him pulling him into a tight hug.

"Please be safe, I don't need Karl yelling at me."

He chuckled, "Good thing I'm getting the hell out of here before he comes over to visit. I wouldn't be able to get anything done with the sounds you two make."

Sapnap's face flushed red as Dream walked over to the kitchen table and grabbed his mask. The mask was white with two black circles where the eyes should be. A sharply painted black line formed a crescent-shaped smile. He latched it onto his face to hide his disfigured face. During one of his many missions, the target fought back and slashed his face, leaving Dream with a nasty scar.

He waved one final goodbye to Sapnap before walking outside into the cold of the night. The stars twinkled brightly through the clouds as delicate snowflakes began to fall from the sky. An old lullaby he had heard in a dream had been stuck in his head for the past week. Dream began to sing softly as he walked along the stones to the castle.

"I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream."

In the dreams that he had been having, he was lost in a dark forest. A purple cloaked figure came out of the darkness singing in response to Dream. He was shorter than him with messy dark brown hair peeking out from under his hood. Every time Dream tried to unmask the stranger, he woke up.

"I know you, that look in your eyes is so familiar a gleam."

He trudged up the hill towards the warm glow of the castle. The mask would be a problem for the guard to identify him, Dream pulled the mask off before putting it into his bag. This job shouldn't be that difficult, it was just another target after all. The poison was odorless and tasteless, he just had to get close to the king. Reaching the stone-clad castle, he called out to the guard that stood stoically behind a large metal gate. He had on what looked like a gas mask with a trident in his right hand.

"Who are you? State your business."

Dream took a deep breath in and out, trying to calm his nerves.

"I was hired for the position of librarian in the king's study."

"Papers?"

He reached into his bag and pulled out four different pieces of paper. The guard snatched it from his hand, using the nearby lantern light to squint at them. He nodded before moving aside to let him pass through.
