You looked back to see the sun shining high above the castle. You were on your way down to the greenhouse to meet Neville before class. You had known him for 4 years after befriending him in first year, and had been close with him ever since. Neville didn't have many real friends, he often hung around with Harry, Ron, Hermione, Swamy's and Dean, but even they seemed to exclude him quite a lot of the time. You were the only one who had stuck by him from the start, you thought as you tried to scrape your (h/c) hair out of your eyes as the wind blew from behind you.

To be honest you'd always had a bit of a school girl crush on him, but you had convinced yourself that he didn't see you in that particular way (even if he did, he sure as hell wouldn't tell you.), so you tried to content yourself with just trying to be his friend. You entered the greenhouse and saw him standing down at the far end of the glass building, with his back towards you. You came down to the greenhouse often to see him, so you thought he would expect you. You walked further on down to greet him.

You unfortunately did not notice the earmuffs he was wearing, or that he was trying to re-pot a mandrake. Just as you tapped him on the shoulder, he pulled the mandrake out of its current pot. The wailing commenced. Neville screamed in panic. He had jumped and dropped the mandrake and as he swung around his flailing arms knocked the pot off the bench, sending it to the ground with a clatter. You also screamed at the sudden movement (and noise) and hurriedly covered your ears, not wishing to faint and land in a heap at The boy's feet.

Neville instantly grabbed another empty pot of soil and rummaged around on the ground for the fallen mandrake. He rushed to pick it up and trying to be as careful as possible while still being quick he placed it in the pot. He covered it with soil from the root up, so that it looked just like a normal plant, or at least as normal as it could look given they were in the Wizarding World.

The room was now completely silent apart from Neville's heavy breathing and the wind gently rattling the old windows. You cautiously removed your hands from your ears as if waiting for the unusual potted 'creature' to start squealing again. You looked up slightly to see Neville now drawn up to his full height, smiling sheepishly down at you.

"Sorry about that.", Neville started. A soft smile played on your lips. "Don't worry about it. I shouldn't have come up behind you like that. I know how jumpy you can be.", you assured him. However a look of disappointment appeared on his rosy pink face. "Yeah...", he trailed off. "Typical Neville. The cowardly Gryffindor who can't get anything right." "Neville that's not what I meant. You know it's not-" Neville's smile resurfaced, "I know, I know. I just wish that wasn't what people thought of me." You gazed into his gorgeous green eyes, "Neville, I-" "I just wish I could be brave for once." He delicately placed his hand on you shoulder, "I'm sorry for ranting (Y/N). This is far too deep for a Monday morning." A quiet little embarrassed chucked escaped his lips as he massaged the back of his neck awkwardly. "But I just feel so comfortable talking about this stuff with you. You make me feel safe and secure... and loved." "You're just so... so...-I love you." He suddenly realised what he had just come out with as he saw your eyes widen. "Wait...what? Oh, Merlin, no! I'm so sorry. I didn't mean that. Oh, but I do mean it! But you weren't supposed to know that! Ugh, why do these things always happen to me? I'm so sorry (Y/N)!"

He buried his face in his hands. He hadn't realised he was still wearing his dirt covered gloves. You spoke softly, trying to comfort him. "Neville. It's okay... because I- well, I love you too... I've just never told you because I didn't want to sound like an idiot when you rejected me." Neville's hands fell and now hung loosely by his sides. He couldn't for the life of him comprehend what had just happened. "Look like an idiot? In front of me? Rejected you? ....Wait...you what?!" "You do?!" You nodded in return. He spoke up again, completely bewildered, "why would you think you'd ever make a fool out of yourself in front of me? ...I'm the one who's been making and fool out of himself everyday since I got here." "I could never reject you." There was a short moment of awkward silence, but considering you were with Neville Longbottom that was probably the least surprising factor. You let out a small giggle after failing to stifle it. It seemed to bring him some comfort as he focused on you intently. Neville's face was covered in dirt from his gloves. He seemed to have finally realised it too because he ripped the gloves off and reached up to touch his cheek with his bone bare hand.

He sighed, "Can't do anything right." You beamed you at him and when he noticed your expression and looked totally confused. "Well it seems you have done something right.", you laughed heartily." Because if you hadn't told me you're little secret then I wouldn't have told you mine in return, and then I don't think we'd ever have found out!" Neville laughed in return, "It was an accident." "But-", he stalled. "For the first time in my life I want to do something right on purpose." Now you were the one possess a look of confusion.

He searched your glimmering (e/c) eyes for permission. Although you had always though of Neville as cute, you had never really taken the time to admire and take in each of his adorable features. His vivid green eyes stared avidly back at you. You had never seen a pair so beautiful, not even Harry Potter's famous green eyes could amount to Neville's. The cute little freckles that were strewn across the bridge of his nose and cheeks. His messy locks of chocolate curls fell effortlessly just above his eyes. Not to mention his soft, petite, incredibly kissable lips, or his crooked and slight buck teeth which you actually thought gave him character and an undeniably charming air. He was really very handsome.

Neville dreamily gazed down at you. He ran one hand through your hair and the other tenderly cupped you're cheek. "May I? If I don't do it now, I think I'm going to regret it for the rest of my life." This was the most forward Neville had ever been. He didn't seem the type to make the first move. He was very shy, awkward and extremely clumsy, he rarely spoke in class for the fear of getting it wrong, and he preferred a day in the greenhouse- just him and the plants over a day of socialising and talking with others. Yet here he was in this moment. "Please, Neville. Go ahead.", you muttered quietly, getting increasingly lost in his eyes.

He leaned down to close the quote substantial gap between you both. He was a good bit taller than you after all. The warm sensation of his lips as the connected and reconnected with yours was electrifying. You had never felt such a rush of excitement. His touch was gentle and slow and you could tell that he was savouring every last moment as you lips moved together simultaneously. He began to pull away slowly, taking a moment to recollect himself. The pink tinge of his cheeks growing ever darker. "Are you okay?", you asked concerned. "I'm alright. Are you?" When you nodded he smiled,  "Do you mind if I-" He picked you up and hoisted you up to sit on the bench behind you. You squealed in surprise, then doubling over in fits of laughter.

"Neville!" A wide grin spread across his lips, his imperfect teeth on full display. You're smile became even broader. He was right when he had said he felt safe around you, he could always be himself with you. You completely understood his feelings. You let your hands wander up his chest, watching his skin flush once more. They travelled over his broad shoulders and became stationary at the back of his neck. You raised one hand and stroked his hair. "Who would've known, eh?" You teased as he blinked and returned your grin. "You're my gentle giant, Neville Longbottom." He gave you one last gentle kiss on the lips and caressed your cheek.

Your watch buzzed. "Oh goodness. We're going to be late for potions!" Neville's face grew dark, "Oh no. Professor Snape's going to eat me alive." You smirked mischievously as he helped you down from the bench. "I won't let him get past me. I'll smuggle one of those mandrakes in. He won't know what's hit him. Literally, he'll be out like a light!" Neville laughed melodically. "It's alright flower. That man's got it in for me anyway. But I'm alright now that (Y/N) (Y/LN) is my girlfriend!" He said jokingly. "I'm your what?"

You stopped dead in your tracks. "My girlfriend... Um, I'm just joking... don't worry-" He corrected himself, looking worried. "I'd love to claim that title you know.", you teased, finally putting him out of his misery. His face lit up as quickly as it had fallen. "Alright then. Come on. I can't get in trouble for being late on top of screwing up all of my potions, now can I?" He looked back at the greenhouse doors and shouted, "Don't worry guys! I'll be right back the first chance I get to clean up and get you lot sorted, alright? Don't rat me out to Professor Sprout!" You gave him a look of curiosity. "You talk to them as if they're your kids!" He chuckled and goofy grin took over his face, "Course I do." Laughing you both ran back up the path to try and avoid Professor Snape's wrath.
