BEING THE ONLY
VIRGIN IN SCHOOL
PROBABLY IS REALLY
STUPID.

Bayley did think about losing her virginity quite a bit. She wondered if it was going to be like the stories that she had read or the stories that she had heard from her sister and Sasha and the other girls in her school.

But there wasn't anyone in school who she thought was worthy enough to take it. Well, worthy isn't the right choice of words, more along the lines of someone who she trusted. Besides, why was that the big talk nowadays? Sex, sex sex.

"Sasha, let it go. It's been a week. I'm not going to lose my virginity." Bayley sighs as she continued to write the physics formula. The two were in the courtyard sitting at one of the desks. Bayley was working on her physics homework, while Sasha was eating her lunch.

"I'm not telling you to lose your virginity. You know I'm all pro-choice, let a woman do what she wants with her body, but I'm saying to at least loosen up a bit. All you do is read, study, and work. I barely even saw you last summer."

"Cause you went to Bora Bora with your boyfriend. That's why."

Bayley loved that her friend was happy. Even when they were kids, Sasha never stopped talking about going to prom with the perfect boy, going to college with the perfect boy, and getting married to the perfect boy. Sasha wanted her perfect boy. Seth wasn't the perfect boy. He was far from perfect but to Sasha? He had no flaws. He was the perfect boy.

"You could've come if you found a sexy man. And even if you thought that none of the guys here were worthy of you and your sexy self, there are like five other high schools in our district. If you want, I'll drive you to the games this year and find you a sexy man."

Bayley sighed. It's been like this since freshman year. All she wanted was to graduate, go to college, and then vet school. That's all that was on her mind. Why was it so hard for Sasha to understand that?

"What if I don't want a sexy man? What if I wanna die alone with Flex and my books and all the animals in the world? Why is that so hard for you to understand that?"

Sasha kept quiet. "Look. I've been the same way since you met me. I haven't changed, and I'm not going to change just because it's my senior year. I get it. You want us to live it up. But I can't, and frankly, I don't want to either. I have worked way too hard to give it up by partying and drinking and all the shit you want to do."

"You know when I'm free, I hang out with you. We go shopping, we go to cafes and we gossip about any and everything in the world. We're best friends, and you're being so difficult. I support you all the time and you're not being supportive of what I want to do. It's not fair."

Bayley closed her notebook and put it in her bag and stood up. "Pam, I'm sorry."

She shook her head. "No, I feel like I'm not living to the expectations of being your best friend. I don't want to party and you've been like that since we got here. Maybe we should just take a break."

"A break?" Sasha scoffs at her friend's tomfoolery, "you're breaking up with me? That's the dumbest shit I have ever heard. Come on, Bay. I said I was sorry. I'll let it go."

She shook her head. "I think it'll be best. Besides, I can pick up extra shifts at the store, make some money, and you can spend time with Seth. It's a win-win for both of us."

Sasha rolled her eyes. "I spend enough time with him. I'll let it go. I'm not going to lose my best friend." Bayley sighs. "I just need some space from you. That's it. I'll text you when I can."

Bayley walked away from her, ignoring her name being called from her friend's mouth, walking into the building, trying to find a place where she can do her work.

"That wasn't very nice," she heard behind her. She stopped walking and turned around and was met with a chest. She looked up and was met with his brown eyes. He pushed a piece of strand out of her face. "You shouldn't be mean to your friend like that."

She pushed his hand away from her. "Don't touch me. And why are you in my conversation? What are you, some stalker?" The man chuckles and shrugs. "Your best friend is dating mine," his accent became thick as he began to lean against the lockers. "I like to watch out."

"Just stay away from me," she said, turning around and continuing her walk away from the situation that she was just in.
