Hey!

I've been wanting to write a historical fiction novel for some time, as it's definitely one of my favourites genres and some of the historical fiction books I've read on Wattpad are amazing! So I wanted to try and add to that, whilst still writing something original. Then I noticed that there weren't many Marie Antoinette books on Wattpad.

I adore Marie Antoinette and everything to do with Versailles, who wouldn't? The beauty, the elegance, the extravagance. So I thought I'd pay homage to her and write a historical fiction with her as the central character.

It takes place from the age of 14 when she first moves to France until she's crowned Queen of France at 18. I tried to imagine what it would be like for a young girl in the strange environment that was Versailles and how she tries to adjust to her new life.

I made the cover myself, it features Kirsten Dunst when she played Marie Antoinette in Sofia Copolla's 2006 movie 'Marie Antoinette.' If you haven't see the movie, go and watch it, it's really good! Anyway I don't own the picture etc.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy, please leave any comments below and votes would be greatly appreciated!

Merci et passez une bon journée!

(Thank you and have a good day!)

A SNEAK PREVIEW!

Dearest Diary,

Mother says that I should keep a diary to record all of my thoughts, because being married can be incredibly lonely. She says that I should never reveal my secrets and hide my true emotions, acting like a perfect princess, just what the French want.

I run through the countless rules and obligations that I was warned about beforehand in my mind.

- I must be polite and courteous at all times.

- I must respect and love my husband and be a role model for the other ladies at Versailles.

- I must be dignified but remember that I am now a Dauphine, therefore that puts me above everyone else except for the King and my husband.

- I must look beautiful at all times and never embarress myself or my family, both French and Austrian.

The list goes on and on, I don't care to recall them all. I've been trained for this since I was 12 years old and this union was agreed. I have many siblings, my mother bore 16 children, although not all of them survived. I am the second youngest of us all, older only than my youngest brother Maximilian Francis.

If I said that I wasn't afraid, then I'd be lying. Mother says that every woman is afraid when they marry, that it's only natural. But not every woman marries the Dauphin.

The pressure that I feel is indescribable, what if I do something wrong? What if they decide that I'm not pretty enough for the Dauphin and send me back to Austria with divorce papers. They might send me to live in a convent like my sister.

No, I am strong. I belong to the noble House of Hapsburg and now I'm the Dauphine. I will not let anybody down and I will take the court of Versailles by storm.

My name is Archduchess Maria Antonia Josepha Johanna, but I have to go by a different name now. As I am now known, my name is Marie Antoinette, Dauphine of France, I'm 14 years old and one day I will be the Queen.
