Warnings: depictions of labor and delivery, fluff

A/N: This is loosely based on my own labor and delivery experience. Please be kind.

You woke up that morning feeling awful. You were nauseous and had a weird lower belly pain. At 32 weeks pregnant with your husband Sebastian's twin boys – this was not out of the ordinary. You had a perfectly healthy pregnancy, but he had a weird feeling. Something told him that the pain you were in wasn't normal. So, to be safe, he let them know he would be late to shoot today and took you to the hospital. When you got there, they hooked you up to a million different monitors. One was monitoring each baby's heartbeat, one your blood pressure, one your pulse/oxygen levels, and the last was monitoring for contractions. After being monitored for about an hour, the doctor popped in with startling news. "Y/n, you're in pre-term labor".
Pre-term labor?, you thought. How could you be in labor? You were just having a little bit of pain.
"Y/n, we're going to admit you to the hospital for monitoring and start you on a magnesium drip to stop the labor. If we can help it, we're not having babies today.", the doctor continued.
A pang of anxiety flowed through you. Not only was pregnancy as a whole a new experience for you, but this was terrifyingly new. Sebastian gave you a kiss on the forehead, and stepped out to let everyone know that he may not be on set for a few days. Then he returned right back to your side.
You were helped into a wheelchair and wheeled into a room where you were placed on the same monitors and hooked up to an IV drip. The magnesium made you feel like garbage, but it worked! Within two days you were back home on bedrest. Sebastian never left your side. This is where it all calms down, you thought. Little did you know, it was just beginning.
Most don't know that you cannot carry specific types of twins past 36 week and 6 days. You were set to be induced on that exact day. You had spent all night having panic attacks and disassociating, thinking about all of the unknowns of labor and delivery. Your doctor was kind enough to allow you to attempt to deliver your twins vaginally, but there was the risk of delivering one naturally and the second having to be delivered via c-section. That thought terrified you. You were doing everything you could to avoid being cut open. Sebastian had drawn you a bath and whispered sweet nothings in your ear to keep you calm the entire night. "It's going to be okay, baby". "I'll be right by your side". "Can I get you anything at all? I want you to eat. Can you do that for me?". He was truly your rock.
Finally, at 4am, it was time to go to the hospital. When you got there you were bombarded with paperwork giving consent for treatment, consent for your babies' treatment, and even consent for blood transfusions. You quickly signed them all and were brought back. Within an hour, you were hooked up to IV piticon, inducing labor. An hour after that, the doctor came in and broke your water. That really got things rolling. You were in a good bit of pain, but Sebastian was there the entire time. "Are you okay?", "Do you need anything?", "You're doing such a good job, you're already such a good Mommy".
After a while hour, the anesthesiologist was in to insert your epidural. That was truly the biggest relief of your life. At 5cm dialated, you weren't sure you could take the pain anymore. Sebastian was finally able to get up and grab himself something to drink, but was right back by your side. He even sat and watched over you while you took a nap.
At 3pm, you woke up to a nurse coming to see how dialated you were. She let you know that you were 7cm, and we would probably have the babies sometime tonight. You and Sebastian were ecstatic. There were so many unknowns, it was nice to know you were progressing along quickly and that there was an end in sight. By 3:45, something felt off. It was the first "feeling" you had since the epidural. You were increasingly uncomfortable – not in pain – just uncomfortable. "I'll go get the nurse", Sebastian said. When they both came back, the nurse let you know that it sounded like you may be ready to push. She checked you again and you were almost 10cm!
You began to shake as everyone prepared for you to deliver your babies in the operating room. They had whisked Sebastian away to scrub up, and when he came in everyone was ready. The doctor immediately began coaching you through pushing your first baby out. With the first push, you shook. "You're doing amazing, baby", Sebastian said. And with that, another push. And another. Finally, your first baby boy was born. The nurse immediately whisked him away to assess him, and the nerves set in. While Sebastian watched the nurse intently, there were 4 nurses around you, monitoring your other baby on an ultrasound machine. They wanted to be sure he didn't go into distress before you began pushing again. Once they were sure, Sebastian was called back over and you began pushing again. With a few more pushes, your second son was born. You were thrilled. He was quickly checked out and both babies were brought for you to hold. You both couldn't believe how tiny they were.
The babies were taken to be cleaned up, and Sebastian was right back by your side. "I'm in a lot of pain" you told him. This was the first pain you had felt since the epidural. "You shouldn't be, The epidural is still in place", the nurse said. She looked worried. Sebastian glanced down and noticed the amount of blood you were losing. "Is that normal?", he asked the doctor. "What? Is what normal?", you asked frantically. The doctor began to tell you that you were losing a lot of blood and that she was doing everything she could to stop it. Nurses suddenly appeared and began giving you different pills. You were losing consciousness, but trying really hard to stay awake. You could hear Sebastian in the background anxiously asking questions. It sounded like he was a mile away. When you'd come to, he would ask if you were okay. Over and over. The doctor finally got the bleeding to stop by tyeing off blood vessels in your uterus. Blood transfusions had begun.
Somehow you ended up back in your hospital room. You weren't sure how. But you were hyperventilating, nauseous, and going in and out of consciousness. Nurses were running around, giving you medications to give you a second blood transfusion. The last thing you remember was Sebastian holding your hand and saying everything would be okay. "I'm here". And it all went black.
You woke up a few hours later, feeling terrible. But there Sebastian was, holding one of your newborn babies. He was rocking him to sleep. "Bennie, I love you so much, I can't even stand it", you heard him say. It was the first moment of peace you'd had in hours. He was already such an amazing father, taking care of the babies when you couldn't. You cleared your throat and he looked over at you with the most love in his eyes you'd ever seen. "Thank you for giving them to me", he said. "Thank you for everything you just went through to give me such an incredible gift". You smiled and asked if you could hold Ethan. When Sebastian handed him to you, you couldn't help but notice how much he looked like his Daddy. This is what life is supposed to be like, you thought. And so it was.
