Dion found himself getting into a stickier situation as time went by.
The space tears were increasing at alarming rates. At some point he would be cornered with nowhere left to run, and it would be the end for him.
Dion had only one option. That was to defeat Gremoras before it was too late to do so.
Dion ran towards Gremoras to try and close up the distance. Trying to run away in this situation would only be detrimental for him now.
Gremoras saw what Dion was attempting and yelled.
"You think I don't know what you're trying to do!!??"
Gremoras cuts off Dion's path and pushes him away. Dion desperately looked around for any other opening in an attempt to push through.
To the left of him were space tears, to the right were more space tears, and surrounding him were vortexes. Worst of all, he was currently backed up againt a wall.
It was now or never, there was no other option.
Dion picked up the debris from around him and used them as bait.
He threw them at all directions in an attempt confuse Gremoras.Gremoras attacked his surroundings like a madman. Nothing Dion threw at Gremoras was getting through to him.
However, Dion's plan was never to defeat Gremoras using debris. It was to distract him while he inched closer and closer.
Dion had deduced that Gremoras was likely relying on his mana to figure out his location. This created a weakness as his location could easily be faked by simply filling up a decoy with mana.
Additionally, using high level space magic like these took a toll on Gremoras physically and mentally. As the battle goes on, he would eventually wear out and fall flat.
There was only one problem. Dion did not know how deep Gremoras' mana reserves were. And despite hours having pased by, there was no indication of him wearing out whatsoever.
There was most definitely something suspicious at play here. But Dion could not figure it out.
Dion slowly but surely reached Gremoras' side. Dion's hands shaped into fists and he punched Gremoras as hard as he could.
"I had a feeling you were up to no good."
Dion's instinctively blocked. He could feel a force obstruct him when he tried to attack Gremoras.
"Did you really think I could only use space magic?"
Gremoras smirked.
"Your lack of understanding towards mages will be your downfall Dion."
Gremoras made a sweeping motion with his hands.
A wave shot out from Gremoras' hands, rushing fiercely towards Dion.
Dion ducked and rolled away from the attack.
Gremoras was finally stepping in to attack now. He had finally calmed down after malding over the loss of his eyes.
Dion was getting worried now. Gremoras was a psychopath, but he wasn't an idiot either. Despite being easy to provoke, he was smart enough to know his own weaknesses and plan ahead for it.
Now that he had calmed down, things have taken a turn for the worse. The entire world was turning black. The sun was overpowered by darkness.
Dion was losing sight of his path as the light around him started to dim.
Dion could use his mana to sense his surroundings, however, he wasn't experienced in that field and would end up tripping over debris around him.
Eventually, light no longer existed. Wind no longer existed either. All that was left was space.
Dion was truly cornered now. His magic was useless in this situation. All he had left was his physical prowess, but even that was greatly limited.
"How's it feel to be in eternal darkness Dion?"
A voice rang out from within the darkness.
"This is what YOU put me through Dion.."
"You ripped apart my joy of seeing and imagining. Now I will tear away everything that is yours."
The voice ominously said.
Only darkness surrounded them but Dion could see the darkness twisting and turning ferociously, like a river current, chaotic and deadly.
Sweat dripped down Dion's neck. His body turned numb. He was losing control over himself.
(I don't have much time left..)
Dion positioned himself for one last attack. He had his suspicions before, and had thought to use this trump card but it was far too risky considering his lack of understanding towards mages.
But now, there was no other option. He could only gamble on what he had inferred to be true.
Dion felt for the ring in his mouth and bit it as hard as he could, causing a crack to surface on it.
Mama started leaking out and Dion desperately absorbed as much as he could, building up the mana into his palms.
Shortly after, the ring became devoid of mana and became an empty piece of metal.
Dion spit out the ring that had proven itself useful throughout the fight.
"What is that you've spit out?"
Gremoras' cautiously asked.
In the darkness, Dion waited for Gremoras to approach him.
.
.
.
"A ring?"In one swift motion, Dion punched out toward the voice as hard as he could.
"What!?"
Gremoras yelled in surprise.
Dion could feel the soft skin on his knuckles as he heard bones break and Gremoras' scream of agony.
"Y-YOU-"
Before Gremoras could even continue his sentence, Dion opened up his palms to reveal an explosive trap beneath it.
Despite being unable to see anything, Dion could tell that Gremoras' face had twisted in horror at the sight of this.
The massive amount of mana that had been building up in his palms created an internal explosion within Gremoras' body.
The space tears and the darkness cleared in an instant. The entire town started to break down and disintegrate.
(My theory that his space would tear down once in contact with concentrated mana was right after all..)
The world around slowly shaped into the room Dion had stayed in overnight.
He looked out the window and saw that nothing had changed from when he was transported into Gremoras' space.
The town was bustling with activity as usual, as though nothing had happened.
Dion checked the time and realised that only a minute had passed from before the battle.
He finally understood how it was possible for Gremoras to erase his other companions in a short period time.
Dion looked at the Gremoras' corpse and decided to burn it to cinders using magic. It was unfortunate that he couldn't dig outmore information, but at least he survived the encounter.
With this battle, Dion knew he had to be far more prepared for battle.
He left the inn shortly after tending to his wounds.
His next destination would be Artoria. And he would need to be more prepared than before. Even more so now that he was the only one left.
