Outside, in my cute, new tankini, with my large sunglasses, on a tan hammock, dried up from being in the pool in the summer sun, and waiting for my hot dog and fruit punch to arrive. I was at my friend, Emily's, house, and we had just gotten out of the her new pool. It was the very first day of summer and we promised each other we would be together that day.
Sighing happily, Emily told me, "I'm so glad school is finally over! Now we can have sleepovers whenever we want!" It was funny how we looked like mini-moms because of our fresh drinks with straws, mini umbrellas, and limes; with our huge sunglasses, and our legs crossed, talking about stuff. "What's so funny, Mia? Did I spill something?" She started looking around her towel, swimsuit, and hammock, also checking her face.
"No, it's just....." I laughed some more, "I'm happy too." Then Emily's mom came outside with her phone in her hand with a sorry look on her face.
"Mia, your mom just texted me, she wants you to go ahead and walk home, sweetie. Emily, tell Mia 'good-bye'."
We both said, "Awwwwwww!" at the same time. I walked upstairs to grab my stuff. When I got downstairs I gasped at the window. Well, what was outside of the window.
"Rain? In the summer?" I said to myself. I walked outside and shut the front door behind me, already getting wet. As I walked down Emily's driveway, I heard the front door slam shut again. I turned around to see Emily smiling at me.
"You didn't think I would let you go alone, did you?" And we both laughed and started walking together. Right when we almost couldn't see Emily's front yard anymore, we heard her mom calling after Emily that she couldn't walk back home by herself.
Emily started to jog back home, turning around to say goodbye. Our hair was plastered down to our heads and puddles splashed when we ran down the road, our seperate ways. Both of our eyes were squinting to see through the pouring rain as we waved and yelled, "Bye, see ya tomorrow!"
But neither of us knew how wrong we were....
