The clock's cuckoo flew out of its wooden home, letting out a chime. It was officially time for Wendy to go home.
"Hey, you hear that?" She excitedly put her name pin back in her pocket. "Quittin' time."
She couldn't wait to hang out with the guys after work today, there was the old haunted convenience store which they were totally gonna checkout. Making for the door, she came to a stop when Dipper approached her hurriedly.
"H-hey Wendy maybe I - I mean we. Could hang out. Today. With you and your friends?"
Mabel bounded over from where she was previously observing some of the new Shack stock. "Yeah Wendy we're totally the coolest kids around and would love to hang out with your mysterious friends who we've never met before. And absolutely, most definitely not because someone has a crush on you," she chimed in.
"Mabel! Shut up!"
Wendy looked on, amused and ignoring that last part. She was pretty fine with hanging out with the twins, they seemed like the type of kids who could handle the roughness of her friends but she was still feeling hesitant. Hmm, maybe the guys wouldn't want to hang with some younger kids. She put a hand to her chin, furrowing her brows.
"How old are you guys again?"
"Thirteen!", Dipper said hastily.
Wendy mulled it over, humming.
"Hmm. Yeah sure, I like your moxie kid," she said, snapping her fingers. "Let's go, they're waiting for me outside."
Wendy left the shack, the twins following quickly behind speaking in hushed whispers and the occasional shout.
They headed to the Mystery Shack's grass parking lot. Though it was more dirt than it was grass right now, the summer heat had dried most of it up. There was only one car present (which was Thompson's mom's blue minivan) which they walked to. She spotted Thompson beside it, as well as everyone else.
Wendy saw that he was being held upside down by Lee and Nate and started rooting around in her pocket, knowing there was a piece of candy in there exactly for the occasion. Rounding around the back of the van she found it.
Pinching it between her fingers, she drew back her arm and threw it. It whizzed past Robbie and Tambry, making its mark in Thompson's belly button. Her friends all jolted around in surprise at her awesome bullseye.
"Wendy!", everyone hollered.
"Hey guys," she said casually. "Hope you didn't miss me."
Lee and Nate dropped Thompson and laughed as he crumpled in a heap in the dirt.
"Nice fall Thompson." Lee snickered as he held out a hand.
They all gathered around and hollered.
"Wendy! Wendy!"Wendy laughed and held out her hands as if to shush them.
"Chill out you guys. You haven't let me introduce my friends from work," she said, gesturing towards the twins. "Guys this is Dipper and Mabel, they're staying over in the shack for the summer."
Her friends peered around her to look at the twins. Mabel used this time to introduce herself.
"I chewed my gum so it looks like a brain! MLEH!" She said, sticking out her tongue.
Dipper rolled his eyes at his sister and puffed out his chest."She isn't one for first impressions, unlike this guy," he declared, pointing to himself.
The pause was long.
"...this guy..."
He started sweating.
Robbie spoke from where he was leaning against Thompson's car. "Great, just what we need. Some more kids to babysit," he scoffed, not even bothering to turn his head from where he was tuning his guitar.
