The realization

Y/n's POV

I woke up this morning to a light pattering on my window I got out of bed and went downstairs and my dad was already making breakfast "mornin pumpkin want some eggs?" He asked me "no I'm not hungry" "ok more for me" my dad said smiling

I try not to eat more than one meal a day and that's usually dinner everyone was focused on other things so no one really picked up on me not eating regularly

"Hey y/n Carl came here earlier looking for you said he wanted to show you something" my dad said wiggling his eyebrows "dad gross he's my best friend" he laughed at me as I walked upstairs to get dressed. 

I put on my black baggy sweater with some jeans and black converse I put my knife in my pants and headed to Carl's house.

I got there and was engulfed in a huge hug "hey Carl" I said smiling "hey y/n/n I wanna show you something follow me" "ok" I said as he took my hand in his and he took me to the walls that surrounded Alexandria.

Carl helped me over climb the wall, when we both got down he took my hand in his again and led me into the woods.

After what seemed like a lifetime of walking we made it to this cliff the view was breathtaking the mountains looked like they could go on forever.

"Do you like it?" Carl asked me looking out at the view I front of us "like it....Carl I love it, it's beautiful thank you for showing me this" I said giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"He started blushing immediately "um the view wasn't the only thing I wanted to show you.."
"I was on a run with daryl and we found this clothing store and there was tons of girl clothes so I picked you up some since I know you've been needing some new clothes.."

"No.. they are perfect Carl thank you!" I gave him a thankful hug "y-your welcome... u-Um we better be getting back the rain is starting to pick up and we wouldn't wanna be late for lunch carol is making us sandwiches and mashed potatoes".

"Race you to the bottom of the mountain!" I said nudging Carl in the arm "oh your on!" We started running down the grassy tree covered mountain.

"Ahhh!" I screamed in excited fear as Carl now chased me "I'm gonna get you!" He yelled running after me all the sudden I felt arms wrap around my waist. We fell onto the ground laughing, covered in mud, and soaking wet from the pouring rain.

Carl got up and I reached for his hand to help me up when he grabbed my hand my heart fluttered. I had never felt this way before towards Carl he has always just my best friend. "Are you gonna get up or keep holding my hand you creep" "sorry" I said awkwardly smiling.

"We should get back now it's getting late they're gonna think something happened and my dads gonna freak if he thinks I'm in any danger" "you'll never be in danger as long as I'm here." He said blushing and looking away "but your right we do need to get back now"

3 hours later*
My dad went on a hunting trip with Rick and Aaron for the night so I was alone and I decided to have some girl time and shower and read a book or two.
After I had showered I was reading an old book my uncle Merle had given to me when I heard the sound of thunder coming from outside my window.

The sound of thunder had always frightened me because of the way it's always so loud and can shake your whole house. I tried to suck up my fear and forget about it but couldn't and decided to walk to Carl's house and stay the night there.

I packed an overnight bag with some extra panties, a bra, and some clothes for tomorrow. I walked down stairs and out the door making sure to leave a note telling my father where I was so he knew I was safe at ricks house with Carl and Michonne .

I ran as fast as I could to the other street where Carl lived and quietly went inside the house. I tried to tip toe upstairs as fast and quiet as possible I saw Carl's room and opened the door.

I laid my bag down and crawled into his bed he jumped looking scared his face softened when he saw me next to him "what are you doing here it's one in the morning y/n?" He asked moving his long brown hair out of his face "I don't like the thunder and my dad isn't home so I just came here I'm sorry if I'm bothering you I just don't want to be home alone"

Carl looked at me with an understanding smile "it's fine y/n you just surprised me is all" "sorry for scaring you Carl" I said laying down and getting under the covers. "It's fine y/n/n"

I was finally asleep when a loud bang of thunder shook me awake "Carl" I whispered "Carl wake up" I said trembling he woke up and wrapped his arms around me laying me back down.

"It's ok y/n just focus on me ok" and at that moment I realized what I felt for Carl wasn't friendship it was love, I love Carl but did he love me?
