Sorry I haven't posted in a long time. I may have completely forgotten that I posted this story until my sister told me I had to update. Again, sorry. Ok now to the next part.
I wake up to the sound of crickets chirping and a crackling fire. I'm freezing. Oh no! Did someone strip me AGAIN?! I think to myself. I try to open my eyes and find out but I'm so cold I can't! Again, I try to open my eyes and this time, with much hard work, I do it. When they are completely open the first thing I look for is clothes and I am glad to see they are still on my body. Then I realize a sudden pain. It hurts so bad, I can't tell where it is coming from. I search for a wound and find a ginormous gash in my side. Who did this to me? I wonder.
I look up to see if anybody was around, and see a girl sitting by the fire trying to warm up. She looks up at me and at that moment I quickly lay back down so she doesn't know I am awake. I squeeze my eyes as tight as I can, hoping she doesn't know I'm awake. "I saw that." She says kindly. I relaxed and sigh, opening my eyes. I'm afraid she thinks less of me because I was hiding. "I'm not scared of you or anything. I just-" She interrupts me, "It's ok. You're in pain and you wake up in a strange place. I would be scared too." She is right but 'm not going to tell her that. "I told you I'm not scared." She raises her eyebrows and just looks at me with misbelief. I hold out as long as I can but that isn't very long. "Fine. I'm a little scared. Happy?" She smiles and continues what she was doing. "I'm Alice by the way." "I'm-" I pause for a minute making sure I know what my name is and then remember the book in my pocket. "I'm Ava!"

A while later I hear footsteps coming up from the forest behind me. "Thomas? Is that you?" Alice says. A voice replies, "Ya. It's me." Alice relaxes again. "Who is Thomas?" I whisper to Alice quietly hoping the boy doesn't hear. The boy walks out of the woods. "I see she is awake." He turns to look at me and smiles. Wow! These guys are so kind! I think to myself. The boy says, "I'm Thomas. You must be Ava?" This guy knows my name! Thomas holds out the book that was in my apron. Alice's eyes widen. "I couldn't wait to know your name." Thomas then throws the book to me and I catch it. He continues, "Oh! Do you have any questions?" He says shyly. I think for a moment. " Why is there a ginormous gash on my side?" Alice and Thomas eye each other.
Thomas then says "It's a long story-" I interrupt him, "I want to know." Alice starts to explain, "You bumped into Thomas when you were running and passed out so we tried to help you. Oh! Also you are wanted. Anyway, we were carrying you to a cot so you could rest and then you were shot. Our natural instinct told us to play dead so we dropped to the ground then covered you with a blanket. The people that shot you thought they hit us and left and that's when we got you settled and then you woke up and Thomas came out from the woods and here we are!" That was a little bit of an overload for my tired brain. "Ok... Thanks." I say, trying to process what she just said.

After about an hour of talking and laughing, we all have become very close. Good friends, if you will. It's got to be about 1:30 AM when we finally decide to go to bed. The cots are already set up and we are all sitting in ours, so all we have to do is lie down.
When I am laying there waiting to fall asleep, I am thinking about the people I met today. The two guys from the hollow redwood tree. "Mom": Scary, slow, "Dad": Scary, Big. Alice: Funny, energetic but serious at the same time. Thomas: Charming, funny and shy. I have grown to like Thomas. I guess I feel quite close to him. I mean, not like I feel comfortable around him- I do, but it's more. It's like a crush.
So there it is! I know it's short but there's more to come!
