Welcome to my first Grey's Anatomy book! Just a fair warning, this book will contain multiple up's and down's just like the show. Kelly (me) is 16, Derek (my dad) is 37, and Maddie (my bff) is also 16. Enjoy!

Kelly's POV

I was sitting on the living room couch waiting for my dad to get home from another late shift at the hospital. He had to take a lot of longer shifts because the hospital is short staffed. I tried to wait for him as long as I can, but some nights, I fall asleep. Sometimes I'll watch a movie or TV show to keep myself awake.

I was about to go back upstairs to my bed, when the front door opened with a very tired dad standing in it.  I half jogged back to the door and wrapped my arms around him.

"Hi, Daddy." I leaned into his broad chest. I could still smell what little cologne he had left on his jacket.

"Hey, baby girl." He gave me a hug and kissed the top of my head. We let go and he set his bag down and took his shoes off.

"I left a plate of food in the fridge for you, if you want it."

"Thank you, but I'm exhausted, honey. I'm going to take a shower and go to bed. You should too, it's a school night." He continued up the stairs.  I decided to follow his advice and went to bed.

The Next Morning

6:30 AM

My few hours of sleep were very short but I woke up to the smell of breakfast being cooked. Dad should be at work by the time I'm up. I quickly changed my clothes and headed downstairs. When I got to the kitchen, it wasn't dad cooking, it was his friend Mark. (I'm so evil for bringing back this heartache, lol.)

"Mark? What are you doing here this early?" I questioned.

"Your dad asked me to make sure you had a good breakfast before you left for school. He also felt bad he hasn't seen you much because of issues at the hospital."

"I appreciate this, Mark, but I'm not going to school today."

"Kelly, I know you're worried about your dad, but it's better to go to school and get your mind off of things. Now, sit down and eat." He explained.

I heard what he said, but I just stood there, and I couldn't move. I could've swore Mark looked like my mom.

"Mom?"

She stood there with her bright smile and opened her arms. My brain wanted to believe that she was real, but my heart knew better. I felt myself start to lose consciousness.

"Mama!" I sat straight up.

I was still in bed and I tried to catch my breath. I threw back the covers and ran downstairs. I wasn't watching where I was going and I almost ran into dad. He grabbed my arms to steady me.

"Kelly, what's going on? Are you alright?"

I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down.

"Yeah, I just had a bad dream."

"You want to tell me about it?" Dad asked wrapping his arm around me and lead us to sit on the couch.

"It started normal, Mark came over made us breakfast, and you were at the hospital, but I saw Mark's face turn into mom's. She had that bright smile on her face and she opened her arms to hug me." My voice started to break with tears forming. Dad hugged me and I laid my head on his shoulder.

"I woke up after that. Daddy, I miss her so much." I sobbed.

"I know, me too, Sweetheart. Since it's Saturday and I have a night shift, how about we do something special?"

I sat up wiping my tears.

"Do you want to do some shopping?" He inquired. I smiled and agreed.

When we were done shopping later that day, I invited Maddie over so I wouldn't be alone all night when dad went to work. We obviously talked about boys and other fun stuff. We made food and fell asleep watching movies at 3 AM.

I hope you enjoyed the first chapter. I have a plan to have this book to be about another 13 chapters after this. This is going to be fun...
