Sorry, it's going to be a little short.

Derek's POV

Today is a big day for me. Today I'm removing a big brain tumor and it could spark a new clinical trial. That might seem like a normal day to others, but I always take the chance to do more research on the worlds most complicated thing; the human brain. All that sounded great until I had a 911 page that changed my life...

That morning

I had a plan set for my day, I had to round on my patients and do a few routine surgeries that would take up most of my afternoon. Normally, I don't make a plan for my day because I know it never follows accordingly. Why I set one for today, I don't know. I handed my last patient's chart to the nurse at the desk and I took a glance at the O.R board.

"Okay, I'm in O.R  3 from 1:30 to 3:00. Then, I'm in O.R 5 from 4:00 to 5:40." I continued to mutter to myself.

Soon, Dr. Grey found me while she was looking over the board too. I quickly glanced over at her and she was smiling her classic smile.

"Hello, Dr. Grey." I greeted.

"Dr. Shepherd. Busy day?"

"I've got a few routine surgeries, but I've have a hour in between them so hopefully I can get some lunch and call Kelly. Then, I have a big tumor removal to end the night."

"I heard about that, that's certainly a good way to end the day. I meant to ask you, how's Kelly doing with you working all these night shifts?" She questioned.

"Uh, we had a few bumps in the road. She's still doing good in school, so I'm glad it wasn't that. She's an all 'A' kid."

"That's great. Well, I'm in O.R 8 right now with Dr. Hunt so I've got to go. See you later." She called, walking away.

"See you later." I walked off to get scrubbed in for my first procedure.

3:30 PM

I sat down with my lunch and I decided to call Kelly. She should be getting out of her last class. The phone rang for a few minutes but it went to her voicemail.

"That's strange, maybe she didn't turn it back on. She'll call back in a few minutes."

Those few minutes turned into a few hours, which I told the nurses in the O.R to tell me if she called. I called her once more before I went back into surgery.  It wasn't my phone that showed Kelly was coming, it was a 911 page.

"Who's pager is that?" I asked.

"It's yours Dr. Shepherd, it's a 911 in the ER."

"I'm almost finished here, I just have to close. Depending on how long this page takes me, I might need to reschedule my tumor for tomorrow, I'm already behind schedule. Ross, can you finish for me, please?"

"Yes, Dr. Shepherd." He answered. I took off my mask, gown, and gloves and I went to respond to the page.

I was not prepared for what I saw. There was a young girl having a seizer and she couldn't stop. I heard all the names of seizer medicines they were pushing, but I was trying to figure out who she was. That's when I realized,

"Kelly?"
