*Crymson*•6 years ago•
"Cryym!! Come on!!" My best friend Storm yells to me. Jeez, Louise, this dude is fast...
I stop and put my hands on my knees to catch my breath. I hold up a finger to tell Storm to wait like I've seen my mommy do to my daddy.
He laughs and runs back to me. "Come on fattie slowpoke", he said, poking me on the top of my head.
"Heyy. That's so mean" I whine, pouting. Storm was 4 years older than me, and for a fifteen-year-old boy, he was a meanie pants.
"Then run faster you rhino," he said. I knew he was joking, but I decided to be dramatic like always.
I started to cry. Not just tears... No. Full-on sobbing. "Y-you're s..s..so mean to me... All the time... and I can't take it..." I sobbed.
I looked at him with water-filled eyes and I saw he was freaking out. "W-wait... No... C-c-crymson. I'm s-s-sorry. I-I-I didn't m-mean it" he stuttered.
When Storm was nervous, he had a habit of not being able to speak efficiently.
I just made myself cry harder. "I don't even know why you are my best friend" I wailed. Storm was dumbfounded, and he didn't know what to do.
"I don't think that we should be friends anymore" my words came out in broken up syllables.
Storm just looked like a fish, his mouth opening and closing in surprise.
"Crymson... Y-you're b-b-b-being irrational. P-p-pl-p-please." He said. "I-I-I'll get my dad to buy us McDonald's... Or Subway. Or anything you want" he offered.
That's when I start to let my crying sober up. "Pinky promise?" I ask, holding out my pinky with tears still in my eyes.
He links pinkies with me and then we do our promise handshake.
It's a well-known fact that if you break a pinky promise, you end the world, and if you break a pinky-shake promise, you end the universe.
After the handshake, I go back to normal in a matter of a second. "Welp. Free food for me" I say.
Storm looks even more dumbfounded than before if possible. "Wh-What?" He asks, his stutter still present.
"To say the least," I clear my throat, "you just got played, son" I giggle.
Now he looks upset. "Really? Are you kidding me?" He asks. "You've gotta be friggin kidding me, Crymson."
Okay... He looks mad. Like really mad... Maybe I shouldn't have done this?
"I try to be a good friend. I joke around with you since you're my friend. This is the third time. The third time, Crymson. That you've played with my emotions as a joke. Fake teasing and fake crying are on two different levels.
"Crymson... I turned down going to Elliot. Elliot for you. And you just toy with my emotions. It would be different if this was the first time. I am so tired of you. And I'll tell my dad to get you food anyway if it's so important that you have to upset me to get it, but for the record, breaking a pinky promise does not end the world.
"I can't believe I've been friends with you, a child, for so freaking long." And with that, he ran back in the direction we came from.
I was shocked. What in the heck just happened? He had never acted like that before... Or has he?
Yeah, there have been times when he has gotten a little upset, but he had never flipped out like this before.
Maybe it's because he has alpha blood, and he is going to shift in a few weeks when he turns 16.
I have no words for what just happened. Silently, I walk back to my house. My mind runs wild.
He got asked to go to Elliot...? That was the best private school for supernatural creatures, hands down.
I can't believe he didn't talk to me about it. I would have told him to go. Yeah, I would be sad, but I'd get over it.
Silently, I walk back in the direction of my house. I can't seem to wrap my head around what just happened.
Once I reach home, I open the door and walk-in. "Hey, hun... You're home early." My mom says.
I ignore her and go up to my room. I guess that she takes the hint that I am upset because she doesn't say anything.
I lie down on my bed and stare at the ceiling. I have no right to be upset. I started this whole mess.
Yeah, I've tricked Storm into thinking I was upset a few times before, but I didn't think that it was this big of a deal.
The last time I did this, he just laughed it off and told me to stop kidding around.
He has to have been upset about something else... Right? People don't just get upset like that for no reason.
Another thing, he was just fine and dandy when we were playing. If anything he would have just been a little upset.
My mind runs wild as I lay in my bed. After a bit, I fall asleep to the sound of my ceiling fan.

•The next morning•
I am awakened by my mom calling me from downstairs. I groggily stand and follow the sound of her voice.
"Yeah?" I ask as I walk into the kitchen. "Storm's here. At the door" my mother told me.
This wakes me up immediately. Really? Maybe he isn't upset with me anymore.
I rush to the front door and sure enough, Storm is standing there. But... Something seems off. He isn't smiling.
"Hi..." I say, hoping the cold look on his face is just his way of getting me back from yesterday.
"I just came to say goodbye. Last night, my dad called Elliot, and turns out, there is still space for me there." He tells me.
Wait... What? He is actually gonna go...? This time, I'm the fish. I struggle to find a response to what he just told me.
In the end, a frown takes over my face and I nod. "Happy for you. Have fun. I hope you come back as a strong leader for our pack." I say.
Storm nods and turns. "Goodbye, Crymson." He says, not even looking at me to say the words.
I close the door and fight back tears. I can't believe this. I just can't. I know it'll be a while before I see him again.
Normally, when someone goes to Elliot, they could be gone for anywhere between 4 and 10 years, depending on their level of skill.
And they don't come to visit. They aren't allowed to call anyone except for their parents. And that is only once a week.
Only family is allowed to visit them. And that is only for special occasions such as Christmas, or a birthday.
They do this so that there is no chance of a kid wanting to drop out. Of course, no one ever wants to leave until graduation because the skills you acquire there are things you can't learn anywhere else.
Shutting down my thoughts about the school and not seeing Storm again for a long time, I go back to my room.
This is completely my fault. My best friend is gone. And there is nothing I can do about it.
