The Divine Powers above gave up on this world a long time ago.
When they did, they passed down their elemental gifts to those below. With those gifts, the Four Kingdoms were created, keeping balance and peace, as long as those who wielded the elements weren't corrupted by them.
The first, with Earth, came Terra.
Central and grounded, nature flourished and diversity grew. From the Great North Mountains, the source of endless sustainable materials and energy sources, to the magical and vast Forest of Pine, Terra was luscious and plentiful. The Royal city of Solis, positioned perfectly at the centre of the world, called out to those with specialised abilities and skills, quickly growing it into a beacon of knowledge and innovation. The rulers of this kingdom lead with peace and fairness, sharing the Earth's gifts with all others.
Next, from Ice, came Nix.
Nix was a fortress built on a large iceberg off the coast of the ocean past the North Mountains. Isolated but cooperative, this cold kingdom was arguably the most beautiful, with striking architecture and a great aurora that glistened in the sky. For most, its temperature made it uninhabitable, but its natives relished in its consistency. Sharp in body and mind, the stillness and discipline of Nix's people made them an untouchable and self-sufficient elite, requiring very little from their Southern neighbours.
To balance the coldness in the North, RedRock was born out of Fire.
South, through the Forest of Pine, was the rocky terrain of the Fire Breathers. RedRock was built in and around the environment, its architecture blending in with the wild terrain. The warm temperatures and long hours of sunlight made RedRock an infinitely productive place. Fire Breathers worked harder than any, creating the finest weaponry, tools and sculptures. In return, resources naturally scarce from the hot climate were exchanged from the other kingdoms. RedRock was a land only for those who could adapt and mould, willpower and resilience inhabited them as strongly as the fire that blazed through their metal.
The last Kingdom to form settled above the others in the sky as the Air birthed Fujin.
The kingdom in the sky wasn't really a place. Fujin was a collection of vessels, some as big as towns that travelled through the winds, looking over the static kingdoms below. Fujin was a fluid, ever-changing culture. As more vessels took to the skies, the Air Riders evolved their practices and technologies. Fujin was full of spirit, foresight and self-development. Over time, Air Riders became the most sought after advisors and diplomats in the world, unaffected by the temptations and power that the other elements brought to those on the ground.
For all of time, These Kingdoms existed around each other in relative peace. Some disagreements and natural conflicts occurred, mostly between Nix and RedRock. But these disputes would never last long. Terra anchored the North and the South's strong wills whilst Fujin protectively watched over. All knew the fundamental need for balance amongst the Elements, and each ruler worked hard to maintain it, for if these gifted powers fell into the wrong hands, if the strength of each Kingdom was not equal, the natural harmony of the world would be disturbed, posing a great risk to all existence.....
