Weeks pass and it's the same thing each day but today.. something is off. Today I wake up like any other day but today Mia isn't here when I wake up. It's not even daylight yet so I get curious. I head out to our little oasis only to see there's a fence that's blocked off the way to get there. The top covered in barbed wire and spiked tops. There's no way I could climb over it. Why would I? She could kill me if I do something she doesn't like. I haven't seen her in a while but that doesn't mean she isn't watching everyone's every move. I sit on the filthy ground and stare in the direction of my special place until dawn. Watching a sunrise or a sunset is always amazing; but this.. this area has the most beautiful ones. I've never seen a sunset because I'm usually in Mia and I's room trying to sleep. But it always consists of a deep red along with shades of pinks, purples and sometimes blues. It creates these patterns in the sky you could stare at for hours. I am snapped out of my daydreams by someone calling for me and it's Mama. "Dear what what are you doing out here?" She asks with a stern, accented voice. It takes me a moment to figure out what I'm trying to say, then I respond; "Looking for Mia." She gets angry. "Now why on Earth would you be looking for that girl?" She says moving closer to me. "I just wanted to know where she was so we could get some work done," I say trying to make my lie sound believable. "Forget about that girl! She has made your sister oh so very angry. But it's good you know your place along side us," she says walking off towards the old house. My curiosity grows the better of me so I go searching for Mia. She has to be somewhere because none of us can leave this property. She wouldn't let us. I don't know where to start but I go where Mama isn't. I check the Greenhouse only to find nests of bugs. I know they wouldn't keep her in the main house where I could easily find her. I start to think she'd be in the guest house but.. that's never used except for when they lure victims. It might be a good idea to. I sneak around the perimeter of the property to get to the guest house, avoiding Mama and Papa. If they catch me, they'll leave me in the basement for those black gooey things. I swear the more things they consume, the bigger they get. When I get to the guest house I see the front door opened. I approach the house warily, holding my breath as I heat the creaks of floorboards. I don't dare go upstairs. I creep down to the basement slowly trying not to make any noise. I still hear the upstairs floor creak. I hurry to the family room but I see a shadow and my instinct is to hide. I realize it's a female with long, wavy hair curled up in a ball on an old creaky bed. I hurry to the door which is a cell door. Similar, if not identical, to the fence that surrounds the Baker residence. She's sitting there covered in dirt and a black.. goo? She looks up with a face of horror and that's the last thing I see before I feel something go into my neck as I slowly fall unconscious.
