THIS TIME, Y/N DIDN'T NEED to be woken, the passive wind pressing kisses to her skin doing the job ably as her eyes flew open to a cool night sky.

"Good to know you didn't fall outta the damn tree again."

She groaned as she untied herself from the tree branch, finding Sabito (who sat upon another limb of the tree, swinging his legs like a child) and sending him a nasty glare. "Good to know you slept well, at least."

Their playful bickering appeared to stir Giyuu, who wore the most exasperated look Y/N had ever seen a human sport, and the three of them slid out of the tree in a silent, unanimous decision. They barely had time to wolf down some of the unpleasantly cold remains of their fish dinner before the moans of demons again split the air and they began to move again.

This time, they travelled at a slower pace, all their nerves frayed and on edge. The shadows seemed to deepen with every step, hiding secrets and spirits in their unforgiving blackness.

Without warning, Sabito announced something about scouting "before we get some kind of jump-scare like in the festival skits", running ahead in a brashly determined way, causing Giyuu to sigh so loudly it seemed as though he was exhaling all the air he'd ever breathed.
