I'm just and ordinary girl, in extraordinary love. Ever since i was young, my goal was not to be loved widely. but deeply. And the summer of my thirteenth year, I got it.
My name is Isabella. Even though I had only moved to town 6 months before, I was still considered the new girl. Sure, I had a few friemds, but i was still always considered new. We lived in a very large neighborhood with so many kids my age. I was so excited. Our house was a 4 bedroom brick house. Everyone said it looked like a castle. But it was no castle compared to what I was used to.
I had moved from a 7 bedroom 1800s victorian home. Sure, maybe the paint was chipping and the wood was scratched, but i loved it. There were so many nooks and crannies, and i remember playing hide and seek with my friends for hours.
Lets rewind and talk about these friends.
When we first moved, me and my sister, Sara, were sitting out on the porch reading. (i was doing most of the reading. She's not much for books). We could see three girls runnning back and forth between our driveway and the other victrian house across the street. Finaly, they walked over to the porch with their grandma.
My mom and their grandma did most of the talking.
They introduced themselves as Lizzy, Jill, and Mae. The next day they came over and asked to hang out. We went over to the park and it started to rain. So we had an epic dance party in the rain.
The next day they came over and we played hide and seek in our enormous house. We played for four hours. Our favorite place to hide was in the "matress room" up in the attic. The attic was enormous, as big as the first floor of the house. It had 2 closets; one held at least a dozen matresses, and the other held a bunch of antuique ites that had once been in the house. We hung out up there long after we found the matress room hiders.
It seemed too good to be true. We seemed inseperable. We continued to go to the park quite frequentlly. When spring break rolled around, we went to the convinience store and bought slushies and candy. Then we brought it to the park and ate it on the swings. Then we would usually play hide and seek.
Once it got warmer, we started having water wars in the yard. we would get water balloons, water guns, buckets, the hose, and anything else that could be sucessful as a water weapon. i must say, it did get pretty intense. But not as intense as Lizzy made it out to be.
Anytime anyone would hit her, she would get upset. It reached it's peak when i dumped a bucket of soapy water on her. I didn't see the big deal, since she did the same thing to Mae, Sara, and Jill. she stormed off to her house and wouldn't talk to me for 3 days. I was shocked by how much drama she caused. i had never seen anyone do this before,, and it seemed ridiculous to me. What made it worse was that she did this a lot. And it was not only her.
Jill, mae, and Lizzy all did it over everythig under the sun. If we watche a movie, they would create drama over who sat with who. if we just hung out, they would fight over who hung out with who. even if one of us simply posted a picture on instagram, they would comment crying emojis. I was starting to get upset. But then one day it really heated up.
I had my very best friend, Marie, visiting. A month before, Lizzy texted her from my phone saying "i'm not your friend anymore. I'd rather be friends with Lizzy". But even still, marie was still excited to see lizzy. So we went over to see her.
We went swimming, and then just me and Marie went and saw a movie. that was maye the best part of her visit. After that, me,Sara, Marie, Lizzy, Mae, Jill, and Mae's friend kate all spent the night in tHe guest room of my house. Everything was going great; until half of us wanted to turn out the lights.
We all agreed to leave the lights on, except for Mae. She threw a huge temper tantrum. Over LIGHTS. She got so fed up that she decided to leave and go home, in the middle of the night, even though my mom said that no one leaves the house. That certainly didn't stop her. And to make it worse, the next day Mae's mom, Katrina, said to us that she would be "so embarassed" if she was my mom.
This kind of stuff happened all summer. Katrina continued to be rotten, and one day even talked to us about "the birds and the bees", without our moms approval! after we had been fighting awhile, Katrina again decided to butt in, and talked to us about how we all have different personalities that make it hard to get along. And those "personalities", weren't personalities at all. They were more like stereotypical judgments.
The rest of us (excluding Mae of course), didnt like her judgments much. So, we sat Mae down and told her that. Oh boy, was she mad.
'Mae", Lizzy said. "None of us liked what your mom said about us. Especially Isabella and Sarah".
"Yeah', i agreed. "She doesn't even know us. How could she say that stuff?"
And unexpectedly, Mae bursts into tears and ran back to her house. "If you really feel that way, you should just tell her yourself!"
We all exchanged confused looks. And then we left.
After months of this, my parents sat us down and told us that we were moving. We were moving to a suburb of Pittsburgh with apparantly lots of oppurtunities. Needless to say, at first, I wasn't very happy.
Sara and I started getting really tired of all this drama from Mae. And so were Lizzy and Jill. So we all pulled away from Mae. We were done with her.
But then, Jill, her mom, and Katrina all saw each other in Target one day. And apparantly they had a big dramatic reunion. And they got back together. At first I didn't care. But when Mae and Jill started screaming at my sister and me through their window, I started to care.
Lizzy was the only one I had left.
My mom was taking a walk one morning. And Katrina was waiting for her in her car.
She said so many obscene words about my family I cant' repeat them.
This all just made it easier to leave. And when I noticed Lizzy starting to go downhill, I honestly didn't care anymore. A few weeks later we left town.
And I was more than ready.
