First story in this book! It's just really soft and tender.
Can be both read as platonic or to be romantic! Up to the reader.

» Summary: You and Optimus have a moment of peace and talk.

» Word count: 1 316

» The continuation is also up to the reader as it's vague, though I imagined it as G1 (even though Optimus' face is uncovered shh)

As much as you enjoyed the chatter of the base, it could get a lot. Like a lot.

Seeking some kind of 'shelter' from it all, you ventured outside. The soft breeze hit your skin and you could feel yourself relax immediately. With a soft sigh, you trudged on forth, just to feel a bit more away from the chaos. Sitting down, you took in a deep breath and let your hands rest upon the soft strands of grass.

You felt so much better already.

I guess you never expected giant alien robots to be able to be so petty and loud just like humans. Overall, you never expected them to feel so... Human. It felt stupid to say, but how else could you describe it?

For a species that has been stuck in a war so full of terrors for millions of years, they were still social, still kind to each other, - well at least the autobots - they still comforted each other. They showed affection in such a similar manner, it was almost odd to see at first. You thought it might have been something they've picked up from the humans, but when you first met them they were barely on Earth for a year, barely talked to humans. No, that was all them.

    It was actually really sweet.

Sometimes it made you wish you were more of the same height. Hugging Bumblebee seemed like a pretty sweet idea. Actually, hugging any one of the bots seemed pretty cool if you said so yourself. But you barely reached their thighs in most cases, it definitely made it more difficult.

A thud of large footsteps dragged you away from your thoughts. If those didn't catch your attention, the large shadow swallowing you and the area around you would have.

Craning your neck up, you smiled at the mech that approchead you.

    " Hey Optimus. "

" Hello, Y/N. Would you mind if I joined you? "

" Of course! ", you patted the spot next to you on instinct, inviting him to sit there.

With a soft, barely there smile, Optimus sat down as carefully as he could next to you. Well 'next' to you, he still left a generous space between you, the Autobots were always so careful to not hurt any human around them. It made you want to cry, it was awfully sweet coming from something so strong.

Turning to look at you with blue optics, Optimus spoke, his voice a friendly baritone, " I noticed you've departed suddenly. I wanted to see if everything is alright with you. "

You could weep. The leader of all Autobots, someone so much stronger and much more important than you, went out of his way to check on you, because he saw you leave without saying anything. What did this universe ever do to deserve Optimus Prime.

Looking up at Optimus, you gave him the most genuine smile you could muster, " I am quite alright, thank you! The base just got a bit too chaotic for me today. ". Breaking your eye contact, you looked over at the sky. The sun was about to set, starting to paint the sky in warm, welcoming tones, drowning the whole landscape in oranges. " I needed to get some fresh air, that's all. "

Optimus hummed thoughtfully, " I understand, the Autobots can get a bit rowdy at times. I hope it does not bother you too much. "

" Oh, not really. Optimus, I've dealt with human children many times in my life. The Autobots are nothing compared to that. "

" Well... "

You let out an amused chuckle, shoulders gently shaking with it. Waving away tears that weren't really there, you glanced back up at Optimus.

" Right, right, I see your point. ", thinking for a bit, you spoke up, " You know, I've just been thinking about the fact how similar humans and Cybertronians are. I know how awfully vague that is- But I guess that's how it all feels to me. There's so many small things, so many mannerisms, feelings, that are almost the same. At times it's hard to believe we're from completely different and distant planets- Oh, I am rambling, aren't I? Sorry, I got carried away. "

Optimus gently waved his hand, as if brushing your apology off, " There is no need to be sorry, friend. I am honored you'd share your thoughts with me so openly. ". He scratched his chin for a second, before continuing, " I have also taken note of our akin behaviors at times. It is very curious indeed. It has helped many of us to realize that you are a species worth protecting. It is always easier to rally behind someone if you can sympathize with them. "

You noticed just the smallest hint of grief wash over Optimus near the end, but it was gone before you could even pinpoint it, maybe it was just a trick of light anyway.

Scratching your cheek sheepishly, you said, " I don't have such thought provoking things to say like you, but I gotta agree. It's made getting attached to you all far too easy. "

Expression turning soft, Optimus' lips quirked up a bit, " I never really thought of it that way, but yes, you are right. It makes it easier for us to understand each other. ". Seeing Optimus with such a kind, worry free expression made you almost feel special. You wished he could look like that more often, that he could have less to worry about, that he could finally get some rest.

" At times it makes me wish you Cybertronians weren't so big. Makes it much harder to show fondness for you guys. What am I supposed to do? Give your knees a pat? "

Optimus huffed and that was probably the closest you'll ever get to hearing him laugh, it pulled at your heart strings.

" The intentions behind an action are what matters the most, but I see where you are coming from. ". He lightly shook his head, " I am sure we could find some alternative. "

" You are always full of good ideas, I am all ears! "

Optimus tilted his helm a bit, clearly thinking, " Very well. ". Reaching his hands out to you, he said, " Hop on. "

Standing up from your cozy spot on the grass, you traded seats for Optimus' hands. Quite frankly you weren't sure if he wanted you to stand or sit, but being carried while standing always gave you vertigo, so this will have to do.

Lifting you up to the top of his chassis, he leaned his helm down so he could actually see you, " Do you think you could work with this, then? "

You hummed playfully, putting a hand on your chin, sizing him up dramatically, " Yeah, I think this'll do. '' Standing up from your spot, you draped your body on top of his chassis and leaned forward to wrap your hands around his neck. You still had to stretch a decent amount, but it was fine, you were quite comfortable really.

You could feel Optimus tense up like this for a second, before relaxing. He probably expected you to just lean onto his chassis, but like you were gonna pass this opportunity up.

He moved his hands up just a bit, so you didn't have to stretch yourself that much to reach him, a small action you appreciated. With you being perched steadily on only one of his hands, he let the other gently rest upon your back, basically hugging you back. You could weep, this was the sweetest thing. Without realizing you hugged him tighter, to which he only hummed in amusement.

" Is this an alright alternative then? ", you could feel his voice up close like this and quite frankly, you never felt more safe. You'd be content to stay like this for hours.

" Yes, I think it will suffice just fine. "

You're unsure if you'll ever let go, but well, Optimus did this to himself, didn't he?
