"Hello, Sanghoon-ssi! How are you?"
Seri got a call from Cha Sanghoon in the evening. She was home alone because Yoongi went out to meet with an idol who could be a possible future collaboration option for Agust D. He promised to be back in time for their dinner plans.
"I am good. Actually, I was thinking about you. Can we meet tonight?"
Cha Sanghoon was a nice guy but Seri did not want a nice guy she wanted the sloppy smirking-tangerine loving goofball of her best friend. She had never felt as conflicted in her life as she was feeling in that moment. She wanted to be with Yoongi but she knew that was a far-fetched dream. Sanghoon was a safe and good option. He was a pretty decent looking guy who was kind and liked to try different cuisines. What more could a girl ask for?
"I am sorry. I am busy tonight."
She knew that dinner tonight with Yoongi was just a friendly dinner they always had and she was not going to look too deep into it. She liked Sanghoon and did not want to miss on an opportunity of being with a man like him.
"But I am free for the evening. How about we meet at the café we went to for coffee after our date last time?" She added quickly.
"Coffee sounds nice. See you in a bit."
Seri put her phone down and went to the closet to search for a coffee date appropriate outfit. She wanted to look presentable not desperate. She took out a black chiffon maxi skirt and a white top from the closet. She applied some mascara and pink nude lipstick. She wanted to keep it simple. She put on a mask before leaving home. Masks were made compulsory in Korea ever since Covid19 cases had been discovered in the country.
She sent a text to Yoongi informing him that she is going out and will be back in time for dinner.
The café was on a considerable walking distance from the BTS dorms. Seri was prepared for the walk beforehand that is why she wore flats. On her way she looked over at people around her, many looked busy on their phones while some were in a hurry probably wanting to reach home after a long day. Seri wanted to rush home after work one day. She wanted to feel the feeling of missing her family while she is away from them. Her mother was her only family for now. Seri had seen her work hard day and night to provide for her child. She wanted to visit her mother more often.
Seri had only lived for herself these past twenty six years. She had only ever had two boyfriends both of them were not serious relationships. It was difficult to have a serious relationship when you had to keep a big part of your life a secret. She could never talk about Yoongi to anyone except their old classmates. But Yoongi was a very important part of her life. They have been friends since long before either of them understood what friendship really meant.
She pushed the door to the café open and found Cha Sanghoon sitting on a small table for two in the corner.
"Good evening, Sanghoon-ssi." She bowed in greeting and then sat down on the chair he had pulled out for her.
He took the seat in front of her and passed her the menu.
"You look very pretty, Seri-ssi."
"Thank you." Seri smiled shyly.
They gave their order after they had decided what they wanted to eat.
"How were these past four days?" He asked her.
They had met on Tuesday for the first time for their date.
"They were nice. I was able to work a little for my YouTube channel as well as read a book. So all in all it was nice. My best friend also came back from his business trip abroad and he will have this week off so I am looking forward to spending more time with him. What about you?"
Seri had not told who her best friend was to Sanghoon. All he knew was that they were childhood best friends and that he is a businessman.
"I mostly stayed back at the firm till late at night because we are handling a high profile criminal case and it requires a lot of research. But we were informed that we might have to be closed for the upcoming week or so because of how fast the virus is spreading." He informed her.
"I know what you mean. My team also messaged me telling that the production for season four of 'Around the World' has been pushed and it will now be shot in late April. Let's just hope things are better then."
"How do you feel about that? This is probably the longest you will not be working."
He was right. Seri had never had so much free time before. It felt liberating.
"To be honest, it is a welcome change. Ever since I came back home this time I don't feel like going back on the road. Don't get me wrong, I loved what I did for all those years but now I just want to slow down and rest. And the added benefit of it is that I get to see my family and best friend more." She grinned while adding the last part.
"You are really close to him, huh?"
"Very close. I don't know what I would do without him. He is the first person I call when I have any good news to share and he is also the first person I call when I feel like crying. He has always been there for me even when he is so busy that he doesn't even have time for himself but he always takes out time for me. He is always there to pick me up when I fall and he is my number one supporter. Most people are not fortunate enough to have such a best friend but I am and I have always felt very grateful for it." Sanghoon could see Seri's eyes twinkling with excitement and passion when she was talking about her best friend.
"He is not your best friend, Seri-ssi."
"What? Of course he is." She corrected him defensively.
"Let me rephrase my sentence. He is not just your best friend. You are clearly in love with this man."
