Stand Up
Chapter 1-A Little Getaway
"Do you have a problem with that?" my dad yelled. I paused. It's time. "You know what? I do have a problem. With you. I have been dealing with all your bull shit for 17 years and this time you pushed it way too far. I've hated you for so long but I kept my cool. I'm done waiting. I don't get why mom would marry such a fucking asshole. She made the biggest mistake of her life. I've had enough of your crap. If I ever have children I will make sure you never ever meet them. Have a horrible life." I slammed the door on his face. I grabbed the duffle bags I had packed earlier. And went on my long journey to freedom.
I passed a McDonalds for like the 20th time. I've been walking for awhile now. The afternoon sun glared down on me as I walked in the streets of the Downtown area of Vancouver. A sign read 'Reva Apartments' It looked pretty old but affordable. I pushed the dusty wooden door open. A bell rung from above. A man not older than 25 looks up from the desk. He stares at me in astonishment. "Hey." I wave to him. "Do you have any open rooms?" I ask looking up at his face. He looks at a board nearby him and glances back at me. "Yeah, there's like all the rooms open." He flashes me a smile. I smile politely back "How much is the rent?" I just wanted to hurry up and get out of this conversation. "I own this dump of a place so any price I choose. Depends on what your like." He leans forward on his desk, his face merely inches away from mine. A devious smirk comes across his face pleased by my reaction. "I'm a 17 year old runaway who just happened to come across this place." This time I leaned in closer to him, giving him a smile. "Well, well a teenage delinquent I see?" he puts a hand through his brown hair. "Sure, why don't we just say that." he smiled at my reply, handing me a key for Room 17. "First few months free until you get a job." My eyes lightened up as those words left his mouth. I glance at the name tag that is pinned onto his white sleeveless shirt that clung onto him perfectly. Luke. "You don't how thankful I am. I promise I'll find a job soon." I smile at him. "Anytime." He pauses a second. "I didn't catch your name." I turn to look at him. "I'm Jacey. Thanks again Luke!" Before I went up the stairs I took one last glance towards him to see his amazing smile.
My room was on the top floor. The top floor only had two rooms. Room 17 and the Master Room. I had a little trouble unlocking my door but I got it open. The room was actually way bigger than I thought. 2 couches surrounded a coffee table and TV in the living room, a counter stood in the middle of the kitchen, a table with 6 chairs was in the dining room, and the bedroom had a queen bed with a bedside table, closet, and drawers. A knock came from the door. Luke stood in the doorway, leaning on the wall. "This used to be the second master bedroom." He spoke softly as if to keep a baby from waking up. "But my dad passed away a few years ago." He looks away for a moment to cover his mouth with his hand. "So now I live in the room next door." His eyes looked so deep brown right now. A gold speck shined in his beautiful eyes even in a dim-lit room like this. He let out a shaky breath. "Sorry, I just..." He pauses. "It's okay, I get it." I couldn't stop myself from saying. "So how old are you?" I ask, changing the subject. "I'm 21 years old and I happen to be single at the moment." He chuckles as my face turns red. "I was just kidding." He laughs as I send him a warning look. "Cute." I give him a forceful smile. "I know." he smiles at me knowingly. He puts his hands in his pocket. "You're such a jerk." I laugh as I punch him in the arm. "Your acting like you don't like me but I know I turn you on Jace." He whispers in my ear as he walks away. His breath tickled my ears lightly. I watched him walk away, staring at his back. Or more like staring at his....never mind. I hear a slam of a door and he disappeared. I sigh, starting to open my duffle bags. I finish unpacking by 5:00pm. I dropped onto the couch, turning the TV on.
"Hey get up." Luke comes in and turns the TV off. I look at him confused. "Hurry up and get ready." He looks at me as if I know what the heck is going on. "For what?" I look up at him. "We're going to dinner, my treat." he smiles at me. That's so sweet of him. "Wait a sec, I'll meet you outside okay?" I start heading toward my bedroom door. But suddenly I'm pulled back by the waist. I crash into his firm chest. "I-I'm sorry, I just-" he stutters as he looks away. His cheeks turn bright red as he lets go of my waist. But his hands were still floating merely centimeters away from my waist. I could still feel the warmth of his minty breath on my neck. I froze in place, my own face the same color as his. I wanted to turn around and look into those deep brown eyes that had me lost for words. But I knew I couldn't. I pulled away from him and shut the bedroom door.
I slid my back down the door, ending up sitting down leaning against the door. I covered my mouth with my hand as I just remembered all that happened in the last few minutes. Oh. My. God. I grabbed a black skirt, a golden top, a clutch, and heeled boots. I put on some makeup at least. I mean he IS a guy. And plus I want to look good next to him. I slip on the boots and start heading for the door. I stopped for a second to check if I forgot something. Okay, I'm ready now. Luke was looking out the window, not noticing me. "Hey." I say quietly. He glances toward my direction and did a double take. "Wow, you look....amazing." he said. A smirk comes across my face. "You don't look too bad either." He smiles at my response. "Thanks. So ready to go now?" He gives me his hand. "Yeah. Where are we going?" He leans in closer and looks me straight in the eye. "You'll enjoy it." He gives me another devious smile.
