Chapter 1
NotEditied
I don't know where I went wrong. In high school I had decent grades,I always stayed out of trouble, I hung out with the right crowd, but where has that gotten me. A shitty job and a shit.ty apartment in the middle of Texas. Im not originally from Texas, I came here for school, but when I realised that I couldn't afford it, I had to find a way to make Texas work. I am working as a waitress in a restaurant, that doesn't even pay that much. I hate the fact that my parents still have to support me on somethings. When I left home, I left wanting to be independent. I know that I should be grateful, but I just wanted to make it on my own.
So I'm at my shi.tty job, "Claw". Its a seafood slash barbeque place. I can admit some of the food is delicious, but we don't get enough business for me to make a decent wage on tips. The customers don't even tip generously. I assumed that i was fairly good at customer service but apparently I need to work harder. I get off of work in a couple of hours. I get off late on the weekend, which leaves no time to hang out and party. I would like to go out and meet new people but I'm content with my coworkers, they are an interesting group of people
First there is Rita who is the bartender. She is queen of the tips. I'm starting to think the only reason men come to "claw" is because of Rita. She is quite beautiful. I see the way men drool over her, making puddles covering the bar floor. They order round after round just to get the attention of a woman that beautiful. Rita is hispanic and the men litterally melt when she talks to them in spanish.
Jay is hands down my favorite coworker. He is a waiter just like me. Jay is a really bubbly character, always quick-witted, he makes working here tolerable. He is probably the reason most women come to Claw.
I'm not going to lie, Jay is attractive I have a little crush on him. Its weird because I'm 22 years old. I'm just going to be friends with him because it's never okay to date coworkers, because, I have to see him everyday. I don't even think he likes me back so fu.ck it.
My feet, wrist, and back hurt. I can't wait to get off, so i can go home and just go to sleep bliss.
"Syd." I turned around to see Rita calling me over
I currently didn't have a table, Jay had the table of three, which were the only customers we had right now. Considering its only 7, people won't be coming until around 9 to start getting drunk on their as.s.
I walked over to where Rita was she was nursing a beer, sitting on one of the stools on the outside of the counter.
"Yea" I said taking a seat next to her.
"Want a drink" she said sipping her beer.
"No, I'm fine. Whats got you drinking so early."
"This job is so fu.cking boring. I need something more exciting i don't get paid enough to di this."
"Let's have some fun then"
"Fun doing what?"
"Lets dance" I said taking the beer out of her hand and setting it on the counter. I grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the middle of the bar, where there was a radio. I turned the radio on, turning to the hip hop and r&b station. The song that blasted through the speaker instantly got me moving. I quickly started dancing to the music.
When i was younger I took was ballet dancer. I really enjoyed it but when i got to my senior year of high school i dropped it because I was focusing on my studies. I thought dancing wasn't a practical job, so I went towards academics. I think I wouldve been better off focusing on dance and going to a preforming arts school. That dream is long gone now.
