Lan Wangji was sitting at the table with his cheerful and rule breaking husband and once again, Wei Ying would chat through the whole dinner time. At least he was not as silent as he had been yesterday, it had greatly scared Lan Wangji to see his husband so calm and deep in thoughts. Not that it never happened, it did, when he was thinking about a new talisman or an improvement to one of his arrays.
But not like this. He would always share his ideas randomly, half going through them on his own and just wanting to say them aloud and half excitant for any input from Lan Wangji. While Wei Ying might have been a genius and a brilliant inventor, he would sometimes get too focused on one idea and Lan Wangji would have to gently remind him that there were connections to other things as well. He knew it was most appreciated; and they did not have too many explosions as of late which he counted as a sound victory.
Yesterday however, Wei Ying had been silent in an unfamiliar way. It almost seemed like he wanted to tell Lan Wangji something but did not know how to breach the subject. And then, to the Second Jade's immense embarrassment, he just overlooked it in favour or ravishing his husband thoroughly and making him incapacitated and unable to walk in the morning again.
He really needed to learn how to hold himself back better. But he found doing that particularly hard. He had waited almost twenty years for his affection to be returned and to be able to hold Wei Ying like this, they had so many lost years to catch up on. He even found it hard to wait until evening every day.
So he figured the only other way was for him to learn how to be more gentle and ease up the burden on his husband's shoulders. He hoped that Lan Qiren would be able to help him in this aspect and provide guidance as he had already done while giving him the book. He was glad that his uncle seemed to have finally come around and accepted Wei Ying; or could there be any other reason why Lan Qiren would suddenly not oppose their marriage and want to even help them from their current predicament?
He wondered whether he should tell Wei Ying that Lan Qiren was supposed to come by after the dinner. He knew that his husband did not outright hate his uncle, but their dislike had always been mutual, at least to some degree. Or should he ask Wei Ying to run an errant for him or wait in another room while he would talk to Lan Qiren? He did not want his husband to know what he was struggling with. It was embarrassing to admit how inexperienced he was.
But was it not selfish to do so? He had been hurting him because of it and he still wanted to conceal the very fact, even going behind his husband's back to seek advice from none other than his uncle. Perhaps it would have been better to just talk to Wei Ying about this? Surely he would not mock him, would he? It was exactly because he wanted to be faithful to his husband that he had no experience now. And it was not like the topic of love making was an easy one for a Gusu Lan sect disciple to even think about, never mind talking about it or proactively doing research.
Yes, he would try to talk about this with Wei Ying, it would be preferable to look for a solution together. And it would also mean that he was putting his entire faith in his husband. Good, yes, it would be better this way. He should not agonize over this alone, after all, it involved both of them.
They had already finished their dinner, there was no more reason for him to keep quiet. So he waited for an interruption in Wei Ying's speech, finding it extremely impolite to cut him off just like that with a topic like this. When it finally happened – his exceptional husband was just a man, he needed to breathe sometimes too – Lan Wangji gently called out to him: "Wei Ying."
The other's eyes immediately focused fully on Lan Wangji and suddenly, all his previous determination and the words he had so carefully prepared were all but gone.
"What is it, Lan Zhan?"
"..."
"Lan Zhan?"
"...I wish to talk to you about something..."
"Yes, what is it? I am all ears."
His husband's curious and expectant eyes were focused on him still and it was somehow making Lan Wangji very uncomfortable. He would have preferred to not look at Wei Ying while he said something like this. Especially because he did not even start yet and his bright red and burning ears were already betraying his embarrassment.
"During the night..." he started, not really sure how to continue. But he took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment to recollect himself before he opened them again and continued with difficulty. "You are always in pain."
His husband's mouth fell slightly open before he caught his bearings and refuted: "Of course not, Lan Zhan. How could that be?" There was a small awkward laugh. "I enjoy our 'every day'. Just as much as you seem to every time."
Although Wei Ying's voice was now teasing, Lan Wangji could tell that he had caught his husband off guard with the topic and he just wanted to end the conversation. But Lan Wangji could not let him, he knew that he would probably not have another opportunity like this.
He pushed on, urging to get the desired confession from Wei Ying: "You cannot walk in the morning."
"Ah, that is..." Wei Ying seemed to have been searching for some plausible excuse but in the end, he finished sheepishly: "I guess it is like that for everyone." After a small pause, he quickly tried to cover everything up: "But do not worry, it goes away quickly every time. I am used to this; it is nothing serious."
Lan Wangji could tell perfectly well what Wei Ying had not said. He meant he was used to pain so it did not matter if there was more of it for him in it. But that was not what he himself wanted! Not at all. He just wanted to make his husband feel the pleasure but not the pain. He wondered if something could be done about it. It was inevitable for him to confront his husband more in this aspect.
"I hurt you. Sorry." Lan Wangji confessed, he felt like this was a grave sin he had committed and wanted to make it up to Wei Ying.
His husband started quickly flaying his hands all around, apparently trying to somehow reassure him. "It is fine, Lan Zhan, you did not hurt me. Never. Like I said, it is like this for everyone, you should not feel responsible for a little thing like this. Do not apologize; you were the one who said there was no need for Sorry and Thank you between us, remember?"
It did nothing to ease Lan Wangji's conscience, it actually hurt more to see his husband disregarding his own pain in order to give him what he took in such a beast-like fashion, always only dragging the other to bed and taking no regards for him until he was satisfied. He felt extremely remorseful at the moment.
Before he could propose something along the lines of never touching his husband again, there was knocking at the door. His uncle had arrived. And Lan Wangji had not told Wei Ying that they were expecting a visitor tonight. It seemed like everything was getting out of his control and he could only want it to happen.
