Snow In The Dark

Beginnings

I walk out of the ship Jack running up to me as soon as her eyes land on me.

"Are you okay?" She asks looking up at me.

"I've been through worse than just getting cuffed to the floor." I say smiling at her.

She grins and nods at me. She is not able to reply due to Johns calling everyone's attention.

He wanted all of us to go to the hole Zek dug.

Maybe it was because I knew what to expect but I swore I could smell blood before we even reached it.

"Alright Snow put this on." Johns says, handing me a rope.

"Excuse me?" I ask, lifting any eyebrow looking at him.

"You're going into the hole."

"No I am not." I say as I cross my arms.

"Yes you are."

"Sorry I was told to stay above ground so I think I'll follow that order instead."

"Who-."

"I'll go." Carolyn, says interrupting Johns. Most likely expecting another argument to come from us.

"There ya go." I say waving towards her.

"A woman doing your job just the way you like it"

"That's enough." Carolyn says snatching the rope from Johns and begins to tie it around herself.

I stand there in the heat watching as she slowly crawls into the hole. My stomach was in knots but I couldn't understand why.

I'm sure I most likely looked like a child pouting but I didn't care. When someone like Riddick. Someone who seemed more animal than human tells you to do something you should probably listen to them. I was on the outside of the group now. Because of what I did. I didn't understand how defending a man from getting ganged up on was the wrong thing but my morals were never right I guess.

Growing up in the alleyways of the worst planet out there made me less than normal I guess.

My head snaps to the left when I hear a scream. My eyes snap to Jack making sure she is alright then I see her standing just a few feet from me. I relax.

"Did you hear that?" I ask, looking at the others.

"Hear what?" Johns asks, glaring at me.

"I thought I heard screaming." I say ready to dismiss it, until I hear it again.

"I heard it." Jack says looking at me worries in her eyes.

"Let's go check it out." I say starting to walk towards it.

"No one is-."

"Oh just shut it Johns. I'll be right back." I say cutting him off.

I follow the sound of screams picking up my pace as they get louder. When I reach what looks like a stalagmight sticking out from the ground I'm a bit confused till I hear Caroyln scream inside it.

"Hand me that bone Jack." I say pointing towards a dicared large bone on the ground.

Taking it from Jack I start to hit the rock glad when it starts to crumble. I hit it again, the others joining me.

"Let me do it." Johns says pulling me out of the way.

A frustrated growl leaves my throat, shocking me and Jack.

'When did I start growling?' I think to myself.

Johns brakes open the rock just in time to get the Caption out. I jump when I watch her get pulled back in for a moment. Whatever was down there wanted her bad.
