Stars in her eyes and fire in her hair,
Princess of the fae kingdom, a beauty tall and fair.
A maiden sought after as a prize to be won,
Few wanted to acknowledge the damage she'd done,
A destroyer of lands, many kingdoms she's toppled,
But men viewed the beauty and ignored all the awful.

She toyed with the hearts of the suitors that came,
But none she e'er saw brought a candle to her flame.
They all sought her power, or her as their queen,
And none saw the true heart locked inside the machine.
But one day came another, no courtship ensued,
A marriage arranged to prevent kingdom feud.

A king from the north, who matched her in beauty,
But one whose intentions were purely from duty.
He knew of the deeds, he had heard all the stories.
His eyes saw her with detest, his feelings only furies.
But for court he gave a show, he smiled and danced,
None knew the secret behind those eyes entranced.

A more permanent solution had been placed in his hand,
One to erase this threat posed to his land.
The princess would die on the night she was wed,
His blade to take her ere she laid down her head.
The king held no qualms, a great monster was she,
Until that night he saw that the monster was he.

She was merely a women forced into cruel ends,
Trapped and beleaguered by deceptions of men.
Her heart wasn't black, nor hard like a stone,
Hers was a heart left broken and alone.
After so many years offered only false loves,
She threw thoughts of peace to the great sky above.

And still finding no solace she turned even more cold,
Until one day she found something when his hand she did hold.
And this something she found stirred hope in her chest,
And so to impress him she did try her best.
She let rise her hopes and her feelings once more,
He had knocked on her heart and she opened the door.

And so that night he saw, as he raised the knife high,
No monster, but a girl, at his hand willing to die.
Too late he realized the heart deeply scored,
And to his knees fell as he heartfelt implored
That she give him a chance, the choice hadn't been his,
But one forced on him by others with morals amiss.

In the depths of his eyes she saw the truth spoken,
But her heart was in pieces, her trust he had broken.
But then that something that had given her hope...
And so with hesitation she let his crime go.
But not all at once could she find to forgive him,
Was he just like the others, his affections but dim?

But she watched as he strove to right his great wrong,
And she knew 'twould be cruel to string him along.
So a last chance did she offer her penitent king,
Hoping his words would proven truth ring.
She knew that said truth only with time would tell
Whether with love or with death would sound her next bell.
