"No what the fuck? That should've been a goal", Mat screams at the TV. You couldn't help but giggle. "Well hello to you too", you chuckled. "Sorry babe, I didn't hear you come in. How was work?" he asked. You had just worked a twelve-hour shift at the hospital and were exhausted. "It was okay, there were a lot of patients and I had no downtime", you yawned. "Let's throw a movie on and rest for the remainder of the night", Mat replied hugging you from behind.

Mat picked you up and carried you to your room. He threw on your favorite show Outerbanks and fell asleep. You turned off your phone and tried to fall asleep, but for some reason, you couldn't. Tomorrow was your twenty-second birthday and you had no plans. Usually, you go to brunch with your friends from college, but they were all away and couldn't book flights home. "Maybe I'll just work another shift at the hospital", you thought to yourself.

"Morning babe, happy birthday!", Mat exclaimed before kissing your forehead. "I hate to leave my beautiful girlfriend, but I have to go to a meeting with the team. We have a reservation at six at your favorite restaurant", he said with a smirk. You kissed him goodbye before he left.

"Y/n, happy fucking 22nd birthday!!", your brother yelled. You were startled because you didn't hear him come in. "Thanks, Jake", you laughed. Jake decided to hang with you until Mat came back and the two of you finished season 2 of Outerbanks.

Mat came home at noon with Starbucks and you couldn't have been happier. For the next four hours, you and Mat watched Netflix and cuddled. At around four o'clock, the two of you hopped in the shower together to get ready for dinner. "You look so beautiful, y/n. I could stare at you forever and never get sick of you", he said with a smirk. "You're not too bad yourself", you replied biting your lip. Mat pulled you closer and even though you've done it all with him, you still get butterflies every time he lays a finger on you. After taking a very long shower, you both got out to get ready. You put on a tight red dress that fits your body like a glove and went into the bathroom to do your hair and makeup. Mat's warm hands were wrapped around your waist when he joined you in the bathroom. "Are you sure we can't go for round two quickly before dinner? I don't know if I can control myself while looking at you in that sexy dress", he asked while kissing your neck. "Maybe if you behave at dinner you'll get a little something when we get home", you joked. Mat faked a frown in the mirror as he watched you finish your makeup.

Mat ordered an Uber to the restaurant because you both wanted to drink. You arrived at the restaurant within ten minutes and walked up to the hostess stand. "Hi, we have a reservation for two under Mat", Mat announced. The hostess smiled and took you two to the back room. You were confused as to why Mat reserved the private room for just the two of you considering it held two hundred people. You jump back as the bigs doors open to the whole Islanders team, both of your families, and all of your friends yelling, "Surprise". You're as happy as can be and this was the best gift you have received all day. Your parents live in Florida and you haven't seen them since your last birthday, Mat's parents are from Canada and the last time you saw them was at Christmas six months ago. You walked around and talked to everyone to thank them for coming as the waiters came in with bottles of champagne. When a waiter handed you your glass, you walked to the front of the room where the stage was. "I would just like to thank everyone for coming and celebrating my birthday with me! I also would like to thank the best boyfriend in the world for surprising me, which is the best birthday gift I've ever received. You guys are all so important to me and I wouldn't want to spend my birthday any other way", you exclaimed holding your glass in the air. Mat walked over to you pecking your lips, "I love you more than anything in the world".
