Chapter 1- Love VS Death:

“Scarlett” I yelled up the stairs, “Are you nearly ready?

A second or two later she came rushing down them to stand beside me, smiling she said “Of course I’m ready, have been for the last fifteen minutes, it’s you that’s been making us late, I’ve had to wait how long” she exclaimed looking down to her wrist where I knew she imagined a watch.

“Whatever Scar lets go” I replied laughing lightly grabbing her hand.

She grasped it back but walked in front of me, leading I laughed again and looked at what she was wearing. Her body was covered in a light teal sundress which was loose and appropriate for the burning weather of an Australian summer. She had on brown wedges and the delicate necklace I had given her for her 18th. It was a heart scripted with ‘I love you’ on the back in cursive and a tiny diamond encrusted on the front with the letter S carved along with it. She had tucked her brown hair into a bun with the tendrils of her bags hanging lightly around her face. She looked gorgeous of course and it was hard to keep my eyes away from her. I always felt like I didn’t deserve her and she would one day realise that she was in fact better than me and leave, but for now she was mine and I was doing nothing to stop that status.

I helped her into my car; she slipped in easily and gracefully. I admired her every action, talent, feature and aspect of her personality. She was, in other words flawless. I could barely remember a time without her in my life. It’s like those moments are hardly worth remembering and my life only really started when we met each other. Scarlett was 6 and I was 7, she had pushed down a bully’s words with her own and then I had protected her willingly and immediately when he pushed her away, he had punched me in the face and she had stayed by my side ever since.

“Where are we going?” she asked.

“If I told you now I would have to kill you and I could never do that so you’ll have to wait…sorry” I said innocently, holding in a smile.

She laughed and hit my arm lightly before grabbing my hand again.

“I love you” she said kissing it,

“I love you too babe.”

It was a short trip to our dates location and Scarlett had already predicted it after we passed the horse stables, Nothing else really needed this much space and nature to sustain its business. She was giddy before we even got out of the car and by the time we did she was jumping up and down, I put my arm around her shoulders to calm her but it didn’t stop the smile from stretching eagerly across her face.

At reception I paid for two and Scarlett was already out the door before I could even ask if she needed anything. I walked out the door and she instantly yelled “Catch me if you can” and started sprinting into the maze. I immediately raced after her but that girl was fast, really fast considering she was wearing wedges. I was just catching up when I realised she had taken them off and was carrying the shoes in her hand. Smart. But not smart enough, I had been here before with my family and new this next turn was a short cut to the main path, it skipped 3 turns, I was ready to pounce on her when she came rushing around the corner giggling and looking behind her. I screamed teasingly at her and wrapped her in my arms lifting her in a twirl.

“No” she yelled whining and pouting her delectable lips.

“I win” I said poking her in the side as I placed her back on the ground.

“Not for long” she said as she swept her legs beneath mine making me fall on my butt, laughing she sat on top of me and kissed my forehead and cheeks before reaching my lips and pulling me closer passionately. I kissed her back with just as much love and admiration; she was the only girl for me.
