Hayes was overjoyed by this miracle, rushing to Hugos room. The personal doctor was dragged out of bed, thrown into a sack and rushed to the main house. The doctor was disoriented from being dragged here, but still managed to diagnose the ram after shooing everyone out of the room.

The whole family was eager, but the doctor exited with a sombre face shaking his head. The boy had lost his memories and it was not recoverable, his head and been hit too hard. Although sad and hurt, Hazelle(2nd sibling), Hutson(3rd siblings), Rosemary(mom), Dex(dad) quickly gathered themselves and entered the room one by one so as to not overwhelm Hugo.

Only Hayes stood outside still in shock. His ears drooped pitifully and the excited swaying of his tail slowed to a stop. He knew his brother waking up was a huge miracle and that he was asking for too much. But he couldnt help but selfishly wish that he would gain his memories back, the times they sneaked out alone, the pranks and naughty things that brought a smile to his stoic face. Now they were forever lost, with only one person to remember them.

Hayes wiped the tears that had slid down his face and lifted his face with renewed determination. So what if the memories he and treasured had been lost he could always make new ones! Hugo was now a blank slate and could be molded into a more outspoken person who would openly express his feelings! After all, he had forgotten that trauma inducing incident that occurred back when he was four and caused Hugo to withdraw from interacting with anyone. With new motivation, he entered the room to meet his baby brother.

Hugo looked up after he felt a piercing stare, meeting the gaze of his father.

Dex rarely spoke up, using his gaze to tell people what he needed. When what he needed to say couldn't be conveyed just by his gaze, he would open his mouth to utter a word or two and the rest was left to the listener's imagination. Staying with his father for so long, Hugo was quite skilled in this aspect.

Study. , After saying this, he got up and left, not without nodding at Hayes(oldest) and hazelle(second). He didnt wait for acknowledgement from Hugo, as Hugo would have spoken up if he was against it. Since silence was his acknowledgement during mealtimes.

After finishing his meal with his belly bulging out, Hugo waved goodbye to hazelle and Hayes and rushed to Dexs study.

Hugo softly knocked on the door of his fathers study. He strained his ears to hear his fathers reply because at times like this, the response would be a simple hum. He learnt this the hard way, after standing outside the study for more than an hour.

Receiving the required permission, Hugo made his way in and seated himself on the fluffy bean bag meant for family members at the corner of the room. After getting comfortable, he started a guessing game for guessing the reason his father had summoned him to his study. This went on till Hugo correctly guessed the reason.

His brother was coming back after bagging first place in the τελική κρίση (telikie krisi) otherwise known as final judgement. The empire or union which the winner of the tournament is part of, receives countless privileges, from access to resources in the losers land to suppressing the losing party in the tournament's council. The advantages were numerous. That was why, each participant fought tooth and nail to win for their homeland, for the prize and pride.

All the members of this Hiklov generation had won first place without fail. The pressure on Hugo only doubled when his second brother, Hutson also managed to win.

But currently it wasn't about him. Dex had given a short hum indicating although that was also the reason it was secondary. The foremost issue right now was planning his brothers welcome party.

If you are wondering why no one violated the rules or tried to cheat, it is because the tournament is run by an A.I. .the A.I. was created soon after the idea was proposed , the completion marking a turning point in history. But, the founding scientists committed mass suicide, to prevent anyone gaining access to the core of the A.I. and lucky for them, till date no one has cracked the code.

Dex passed Hugo a report, signalling with his eyes to read it. Hugo gave the report his undivided attention as it was marked important with a big red star at the top.

It stated that the orphaned boy of Marques Adilte will be arriving at the mansion today to be his companion and protect him, the young master of one of the 4 ducal houses if necessary. In return he will be provided with food, lodging and salary.

The companion will work as a butler, giving him the access to stay close to the Young master at all times. Unfortunately, the companion is down with flu and will be arriving after a week or so. Hugos tournament was 3 years away but his training will be starting months after his brother comes home.

Sighhh he dreaded the approaching training. Even in his last life, he was an orphan and a magician with low physical abilities, but had skills to make up for that. His mood dampened and his droopy ears drooped further. He remembered that before he had come here, he had just joined a tv series. It paid well making him happier than the fact that he now had a stable job. Oh well, now what is done, is done.
