Duane

"I need to leave Hawaii, Dad. At least for now."

"Take Mady and Abbie. Leave. Come back when you're ready to. But promise me you will come back."

"I will come back. I promise. I'm going somewhere he won't find me."

"I'll make sure the Cops don't do anything drastic."

"Okay."

Lyssa

I packed up some of my clothes, Abbie's clothes, and Mady's clothes.

I grabbed Mady off the floor in her room.

I left the house.

I got in my car.

I drove to Abbie's school.

I walked in, leaving Mady in the car.

"I'm here to sign my daughter out."

"Name?"

"Abbie Chapman."

"Please sign the sign-out sheet, Mrs. Chapman-Galanti."

I signed the sign-out sheet.

Abbie walked through the doors.

I picked her up.

I put Abbie in the backseat next to Mady, who was in her carrier.

I got in the driver's seat.

I started the engine.

I drove to Chowchilla, California.

Bo

I walked into the house.

It was quiet for once, which is unusual with Lyssa and Mady yelling.

"Lyssa?!"

Duane was standing on his front porch.

I was looking for Lyssa.

She was nowhere to be found.

Mady and Abbie were nowhere to be found.

"You know, she has the guts to make tough calls." Beth told Duane.

"Mm."

"I didn't make this decision. It is a bad decision to leave an abusive husband."

"That's the point of leaving."

"Where is she?"

"I quite frankly don't know. She didn't tell me where she was going. And even if I did know, I wouldn't tell you."
