'Here we go.'
You thought this as you were standing outside the doors for your first day of your third year of high school. It wasn't that you were scared you were just a bit nervous. Last year you walked in hand in hand with your best friend, this year you were hand in hand with anxiety. During the summer you were forced to go on vacation with your family to visit other family in Hawaii so with time zones and distance it was a bit hard to keep up with your best friend. Apparently he grew quite a social status over the summer. Getting back you were hoping he was still the same. Lee Minho, 18 years old, funniest man you know, has a smile that can deflect any clouds over someone's head, captain of the dance team. He was always pretty popular but this was different, the popular kids took a liking to him. You watched his Instagram grow from 1,000 followers to 80,000 because of his dance videos.
"They probably only want to hangout because he's getting followers." Your older brother Jae announced.
"I guess but ugh, what if he forgets me?" You whine plopping down on the couch next to him.
"Then he forgets you." He says looking straight at you.
"Not funny." You hit him with a pillow.
"You guys have been inseparable since you were 5 he won't forget you dork."
"Hopefully."
Shaking your mind clear of that conversation you walk into the school. You don't have any friends as close as Minho. Sure, the occasional classmate you talk to a bit but no one really talks to you much and you never felt like you had to make other friends. You had your Lino. Lino, a nickname he was given at a young age by you when you couldn't say his name right. You walk to your locker to put some stuff away and grab your books when you hear his voice. You turn around excited to see your best friend after not seeing him all summer only to be met with his back to your face and him talking to some other kids your age. From what you could see it was a few well-known dance crew members. You tap his shoulder and he turns around, his once friendly smile looking at you weird.
"Hi Lino!" You say smiling.
San, Hyunjin, and Wooyoung chuckle a bit.
"Uh hi." He says awkwardly but you choose to ignore It.
"How was your summer we have a lot of catching up to do I missed you a lot."
"Ye-yeah maybe another time, busy busy ya know how it is." He says turning away.
"Oh okay, what about lu-"
"Yeah sure I gotta go see ya Y/N." He walks away, his friends whispering.
You feel your heart sink as you watch him walk away.
'He really did change,' you thought, 'and in a way this feels worse than forgetting me.'
Days passed and Minho got more and more distanced. It hurt to say the least. He would still come over for family friend dinners with you, your dad, and his parents. Tonight was the first one since you guys stopped talking. Pacing in your room, you were extremely nervous to see him in such an intimate setting. Here there were no other kids and you would either get ignored or he would probably fake being his old self to satisfy his parents and leave while they go out. The doorbell ringing knocked the thoughts right out of your head and you rushed downstairs to greet his parents.
"Oh Y/N look at you, you always were a gorgeous one." His mom says hugging you.
"Thank you." You say in a small voice blushing.
You said hello to his dad and then there he was. Standing there with that goofy smile plastered on his face wearing a light blue shirt and black jeans. You stared at him as he greeted your dad. His attention soon focused on you and the smile turned into an awkward one.
