The dark halls quiet as I roamed them aimlessly. Not a sole in sight it felt like something out of a horror movie. Like someone would pop out at me when I turned the next corner. To be frankly honest I don't know the last time I felt more alive, as I was gaining on my destination. My eyes darting everywhere in a panicked sequence, looking over my shoulder every so often. I felt like someone was following me, and that the dark hallway could swallow me whole.
Most the time I liked staying after hours, especially on busy days, I liked the silence, the eeriness of the ringing in my ears. Nobody else was here.
I heard a breeze whipping up ahead, wear the only light shining was the big red exit sign. I knew I should turn back, but something willed me closer to the approaching sound. As my footsteps echoed through the empty hallway, I could feel my heart beating quickly in my heart. An ill feeling fell over me, as I realized I probably shouldn't be here. I mean who comes to an office after hours, thieves...criminals... As the thought trailed off into a not-so-great place, I came upon a room that was dimly lit by a lamp, sitting on a desk, not too far from the doorway. I slowed my pace as I walked into the room and looked around the dusk cover room. It was empty. Nothing but a desk and a lamp stood in the room. Sort of creeped out, I turned on my heel towards the door as I remembered why I came here in the first place. To find out when the shipment comes tomorrow for the new computers. The boss ordered a couple of extra, but he is never here plus no one will notice if a couple go missing.
Only a couple more rooms lay ahead before the exit, I go straight for the biggest room out of them, and through the darkness find the handle and open the door. The cold stainless steel sends chills down my spine, causing the hairs on my hair to stand up on the back of my neck. The room is clean, I keep my flashlight facing the floor until I reach the far wall with a white board. I look at the dates written in pretty blue cursive. As I make out the words 'Shipment' and 'Tuesday at 3. I make a mental note, and quickly switch my light back toward the floor. I turn around and look at the darkness that lingers on the other side of the doorway, waiting for something to pop out of it at any second. Fighting my sanity, I make my way back to the door and close the door after my small footsteps make their way toward the abyss. Feeling like my fear has me in a choke hold, I quicken my stride to the door, and I exit the office.
The brisk wind hits my naked face as I take in a breath of fresh air and let out a heavy sigh of relief. My 2012 Honda, in a deep ruby red color, sitting pretty across the small parking lot, looked very safe right now. Being a small female, out past midnight, at times like these is not ideal to say the least. I head towards the car, unlocking it, so I don't have to stop at the door and fiddle with the keys. I make it to my car, get in and lock the doors without hesitation.
