Chapter 8 - Comfort

Author's note: this is the scenario that I wrote this whole story for so yeah... fluff warning I guess.

Y/n POV

I have been here for 4 months ( I'm sorry we skipped two months but it was two months of boring training) and I trained hard every day, I was annoyed that the progress was slow, but it was still there. I sometimes went to Liyue on Sunday with Childe, it was the most awaited part of my week, I mean it's not like I don't see him every day, but I enjoyed spending time with him.

I prepped myself to go training.

CHILDE POV

Y/n was at the arena as usual at 8 AM.

I told her to warm up again. She was progressing, slowly but surely. I studied her face, she really was beautiful. Four months she'd been here and I still didn't know why she joined the Fatui. Not that I minded. I just hoped that Tsarisa didn't give her any dangerous missions. Ahem- for her safety of course.

We trained for another four hours and then had lunch.

(Author's note: okay guys here we go, I'm internally screaming whilst writing this it's so cute)

I then challenged her to try and beat me in some combat.

"I think you have a good enough level to challenge me," I said

"Bet" she laughed confidently.

Y/n was good, she was really good. I guess I was a brilliant mentor after all.

"How about me make a bet?" I said while fighting her.

"What kind of bet?" She asked with a puzzled face.

"If I win, I get a kiss," I said, with a smirk, while my insides were secretly twisting, hoping I didn't say something wrong.

She raised her eyebrow at me,

"Oh? And if I win?" she said

"If you win, I'll take you out on a date," I said rather confidently

"Doesn't sound like much of a prize to me," she said smiling

"Oh how you wound me Y/n," I said dramatically

Y/n POV

Although she would never admit it, she loved it when Childe said her name

"Alright, deal," I said

"Maybe I am motivated to win after all" I laughed

CHILDE POV

Happy he wasn't rejected, Childe said

"Game on" with an evil smile

They fought for an hour and a half.

Childe could tell she was trying to hide it, but Y/n's face seemed to get sadder and sadder every time Childe nearly got her.

"What's wrong?" I asked her

"What? Oh, nothing" she said laughing it off.

We fought for another half an hour until I finally won.

Before I could boast, Y/n turned around, she went towards the table and grabbed a bottle of water, then sat on the floor, facing the wall with her knees up to her chin.

I stared at her, she was just sitting there in silence.

After a few moments of silence, she spoke. Her voice was shaky as if she was crying.

"How...How am I to achieve anything... If I'm so weak"

I didn't know what to do, so I did the only thing I thought I could. Comfort her.

I approached her and without thinking, I sat behind her, my legs next to hers as if we were going down a slide together, then I wrapped my arms around her, and held her. She tensed at first contact and then relaxed. Leaning into my embrace.

"You're not weak" I whispered into her ear.

We sat like this in silence for a few minutes before Y/n turned around, facing me, and cupped my face, I was blushing but I tried to hide it in the shadows. It was late and dark.

"You know... You could have just said that you didn't want to kiss me" I said, laughing awkwardly.

She interrupted me by putting a finger on my mouth as if to shush me.

"Maybe I do" she whispered. At this point I was flustered and my heart was beating fast.

I turned as to not face her, 

"It's late we should get ba-"

She cupped my face again, and turned my face to face her, then she brought her lips to mine.

I hadn't expected her to kiss me in this state, but I definitely didn't push her away.

She backed her face away from mine, turning away, her face red.

"I owed you a kiss didn't I?" she said

"You're right we should get bac-"

This time I cupped her face and pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear, I made her look at me and left a kiss on her cheek.

"I'll accompany you to your room," I said, not taking no for an answer.

I stood up and offered her my hand, she took it. Her hand was soft and elegant, I didn't want to let go of it. And I didn't. Y/n didn't try to let go either.

We walked the way back to her quarters without bothering to tidy away the equipment when we made it back I raised her hand to my lips, leaving a soft kiss.

She bid me goodnight and I went to my room just across before she called my name.

"Childe?" she called

"Hm?" I said turning around

She looks away,

"Could I stay with you? Just for tonight? I don't want to be alone" she said

I smile at her, she's adorable

"Sure thing girlie" 

I leave the door open for her and she enters my room, it's pretty empty, as I have a house in Liyue but I'm staying here just while I train Y/n.

I prepare a small bowl of Miso soup and place it on the table for her. She looks delighted at the sight of food and takes a bite, a heavenly look on her face.

"I didn't know you could cook so well," she says to me

"I'm full of surprises," I say with a wink.

She finishes up and I put the dish in the sink and guided Y/n to the bathroom. 

"Here," I said, giving her one of my oversized t-shirts

"What's this for?" she said a bit tired

"So you don't sleep in your training clothes dummy," I said, looking away.

She changed and I told her to use my bed, she almost fell asleep instantly, and I told her I would sleep on the couch. I was walking out the room when she said

"No..."

"No?"

She patted the area beside her on my bed, my face reddened and I took her up on her offer

"Ahem- If you insist," I said, climbing into the bed next to her.

She was already fast asleep and facing me.

I stared at her for a while before falling asleep myself.
