WARNING: Nothing

Author's note: My version of Uf Papyrus is not an abusive asshole. I headcannon that he is protective of Sans because of his low stats, and that they really do care about each other because they are all that each other has. Sans calls him Boss to keep up his pride and self worth, and it was a nickname he had for Papyrus since they were kids. They're both still pricks tho.

You were currently in Waterfall, your shoes and socks off and pant legs rolled up as you waded in the cool, shallow water. The sound of soft humming from the next room confirmed that you were in Shyren's territory, but you found the eerie melody calming. You sat on a lone rock in the middle of the small lake, your feet still in the water as you looked up at the crystals the monsters called "stars".

You lifted your hand to trace a small scar on the bridge of your nose, you had gotten while fighting with Papyrus. He was... interesting, to say the least. Him and his brother offered to take you in to live with them when you couldn't get back to the ruins. For protection purposes, was his reasoning, though you could take care of yourself perfectly fine.

He cares a lot about intimidation. Being the best, and taking out anyone who dare try to fuck with him. But, when you fell, and started showing monsters kindness, he acted so much differently. He seemed like he was lost, almost timid. Like you were the first person to ever care about him in a positive way, besides his brother.

You are a generous and caring person by nature, so it's no surprise that your soul trait was Kindness. The monsters were so taken aback by your easy going and fun nature, especially Papyrus. He is so much gentler with you, treating you as if your skin was made of glass, and one hit could shatter you. It felt nice to have someone care for you like you care for them.

You're pulled from your thoughts when you hear heels clicking towards the room. You turn to see the tall skeleton walk through the doorway, and stop at the edge by your shoes. He stared for a few seconds before speaking.

"What are you doing?" You let out a small laugh and kicked your leg, splashing the water and creating ripples that hit the shoreline.

"What, I can't take twenty minutes to enjoy myself? Or are you mad I didn't invite you?" You had a playfully smug look on your face as you turned your body towards him. He huffed and rolled his eye lights, putting a hand on his hip.

"I just wanted to know where you ran off too. You may be a strong human, but you're annoyingly stubborn and reckless. I wanted to make sure you weren't dead in a hole somewhere."

"Aww, you think I'm strong?"

"IS THAT ALL YOU GOT FROM THAT?!" You started cackling at his response and he turned away from you, crossing his arms and sighing. You wiped a tear and scooted over on your rock, patting the spot next to you.

"C'mere, Boss man. The water feels great." He stared at you, contemplating, then sighed and removed his boots. You had to hold in a laugh when you saw him visibly get about five inches shorter without his heels. "Damn. Who did you get those from, and can I get some?"

"Don't. Even." He stepped into the water and walked over to you, sitting next to you and sighing. You glanced over and studied his face. He didn't look annoyed or frustrated, but... worried in a way. He was glancing around like suddenly someone would pop out and attack you two. Your face fell slightly, and you placed a hand on his shoulder. He flinched, his eye sockets widened slightly and he turned to you.

"Hey, you doing okay, Paps? You look concerned about something." He stared into your eyes, red faintly dusting his cheek bones, before turning away, gazing into the water. You sighed and looked at your guys' reflections. He grunted and kicked the water, warping his image in the water and sending large ripples throughout the pool.

You cringed and furrowed you brows. Then an idea popped into your head and you perked up, diving your hand into the water and feeling around the rocky bottom. Papyrus looked over at you curiously. He was about to ask what the hell you were doing when you pulled your arm out, revealing multiple smooth, small rocks.

"Y/n, what are-" You cut him off by flicking one of rocks, and he watched as it skipped across the water about four times before sinking. You take his hand and give him one of the stones. He stares for a second, then looks up at you questioningly. You let out a small laugh and send another rock across the water.

"Do you guys not skip rocks down here?" He shifts the smooth stone in his hand, before reeling back and throwing it into the water. He turns to you with an "Are you serious" face when it sinks, and you cover your mouth to keep yourself from laughing.

"This is stupid. Humans have such strange and useless hobbies." You roll your eyes and hand him another rock.

"While you are right, I think you might enjoy this. We can just chill here, and even turn this into a competition. Once you learn, that is. Here." You take his hand in your own and his face now puts his red scarf to shame. " You want to flick it more than throw it. Go sideways instead of up."

You go through the motions with him, then let him try it on his own. He threw it, and it skipped twice before sinking. You smiled as he stood up straighter and proudly laughed. Not a forced, strained one like he's used to. A genuine, prideful laugh.

"Nice! Now let's see how many skips you can do."

TIMESKIP

The both of you have been skipping rocks for the past thirty minutes. Papyrus was currently winning with six skips, and you were on your last throw. You both might be a bit too into this.

"I got this, Boss man. Watch me."

"No, you don't. You're going to fuck it up."

"The fuck I am!" You send the rock across the water, only to be thoroughly disappointed when it only skipped three times before sinking. You throw your head back and groan as Papyrus cackled next to you.

"THAT WAS SO BAD! NYAHAHAHAHA!"

"SHUT THE FUCK UP IT SLIPPED!" You stood up and kicked water towards him, soaking his clothes. He stood up as well and you booked it (which wasn't that fast considering you were in water) with him on your tail. You didn't get very far before he picked you up and leaned back, causing you both to fall in.

You sit up and laugh, pushing back your wet hair from your face as Papyrus laughed triumphantly. You jokingly flipped him off and stood up, feeling your clothes now hug your skin in a not so comfortable way. You made your way to the water's edge and began to ring out the access water from your shirt.

Papyrus still sat in the water, staring at you with a small smile on his face. He has been so much happier since you came to the underground. It's been a while since he had genuine fun and just generally wasn't worried about monsters hating him or wanting to kill him or taking orders from the guard.

Even his brother seems more lively and motivated. He had been talking with his brother recently about you. About how he feels about you. He stood up and walked towards you, leaning himself on you and resting his skull on your head.

"Boss man, I just got all the water off me." You turn around to face him and rest your hands on his chest (ribs??). He looks down at you, and it's hard not to notice the blush spread across his cheekbones.

You smile and take the end of his scarf in your hand, wrapping the fabric around it. He stares confused, until you tug at the scarf, causing him to lean forward enough for you to place a kiss on his teeth.

He freezes, so many emotions going through his mind, but mostly panic. He finally (somewhat) pulls himself together enough to place his hands on your waist, and he leans into the kiss. You pull away and place your hand on the side of his skull, tracing the crack on his eye socket with your thumb.

"I swear, I'm going to find a way to get everyone on the surface. Then you can finally be happy, and live a life without all of this stress and fear." Tears bubbled in his sockets, and he smiled. You were pulled into a hug, and he sighed, nuzzling into your shoulder.

"You know, I don't even care about the surface. I'm pretty damn happy right now."
