Emma had made some spaghetti for dinner, Y/N and Lenora had helped make the sauce and of course, some pudding for dessert. Uncle Earskell, Emma, Lenora, Arvin and Y/N were sat around the small dining table, enjoying the food, laughing and talking. Y/N felt such a warmth towards this family, wishing she could stay forever. As plates were piled up at the end of the table, drinks were poured, Y/N and Lenora of course, just having some lemonade from earlier as the adults had some alcohol. Arvin and Earskell with some whiskey, Emma with a small glass of wine she had been saving. Y/N couldn't help but feel that tightening in her at the sight of Arvin. He was in a simple, well fitted, striped tee, his cap was off and he had some strands of hair falling down into his eyes. His hand was wrapped around his glass, Y/N finding her gaze on his long fingers and the veins protruding along his fist.
Arvin had a small smirk at the girl, her eyes on his body for what felt like the thousandth time that day. The way her gaze made him feel was much stronger than it had ever been since Lenora had told him of her feelings. That added with the teasing she had done to him earlier, were driving him insane. His body felt like it was on fire when they locked eyes and he wanted nothing more than to rip that sundress off her and fulfil both their desires. The two were snapped out of their trance by Emma who was bringing in the pudding and some bowls to serve it up.
Dessert was devoured quickly, compliments serenading Y/N for the recipe. She blushed and brushed it off, saying it was all with Emma's guidance and Lenora's help. Everyone left the table, making their way to wherever they wanted to spend the rest of the evening. Y/N and Lenora went up to Lenora's room to talk and hang out, Arvin went to his room which was across from lenora's and Emma and Earskell sat out the back on the porch. Emma was knitting and Earskell was reading a newspaper. It was still light out as it was summer and everyone was enjoying the toned down heat and the blazing orange sight of the sunset. The girls spent hours talking before Emma popped her head in to tell them it was time for bed as they had church the next morning. Lenora and Y/N got changed into their nightgowns, brushed their teeth and said goodnight to Emma, before slipping into their beds. They were tired; it was late and they had busied themselves all day with cooking, cleaning and walking around the trees by the Russell property.
Arvin was still awake when Emma had gone to bed and Earskell had gone out to play poker with some other fellas in town. It was nearing midnight and Y/N wasn't asleep yet despite how sluggish she felt. Something about knowing that Arvin was right across the hall from her, laying in bed, was keeping her up and her mind was rushing through thousands of scenarios and sinful thinking. She sighed, sitting up and looking to her best friend who had been fast asleep for the past couple of hours. She got up, quietly tiptoeing over to the door, careful as to not wake up anyone. Down the stairs and out the front door, she sat on the porch, knees against her chest as she stared out at the sky.
It wasn't long before she heard a shuffling in the house and to her surprise, Arvin walked out the front door, only in his pyjama pants and a pack of cigarettes in hand. She drank up every last bit of him, his toned chest glowing in the moonlight. Her eyes wandered down his torso, stopping at the waistband of his plaid pyjama pants. She felt her breath catch in her throat as she etched this image of him in the moonlight into her brain. Arvin stopped upon seeing Y/N sitting on the porch, in a silk like slip, shoulders and chest barely covered. Her hair was messy, probably from all the tossing and turning, he thought. He pulled a cigarette out and lit it up, taking a seat on the chair next to Y/N. 'What are you doing up?' He asked quietly. Y/N shrugged, bringing her knees down and looked at Arvin. 'Couldn't sleep.' She replied. He nodded in agreeance and exhaled smoke. Y/N looked at Arvin again, 'Hey, can I have one of those?' She gestured at his pack of cigarettes. He nodded, extending his arm out. Y/N leaned forward, giving Arvin a perfect view of her bust, making him gulp. Y/N grabbed a cigarette and his lighter, lighting the cigarette with ease. She inhaled, savouring the feeling of the smoke in her lungs, calming down slightly. Arvin watched the girl next to him, in complete and utter adoration. She was beautiful. In a pale pink slip nightgown, messy hair, crucifix resting against her chest, cigarette between her plump lips, gazing at the moon. She was picture perfect and Arvin knew he would never forget the way she looked that night.
