I had survived one week of high school. And let me tell you, I barely could do it. There are so many different people, classrooms, and teachers. I was sitting in my room trying to finish the biology homework I had been procrastinating on. It was Sunday night and I had failed to start the project that was due tomorrow. Whoops. For course it's a oral presentation and I'm the only freshmen in that class. Normally biology is a junior class so I REALLY didn't want to have to present in front of the class. The worst part? I had to present on herpes. Yup, you heard me right. I have to present a project on a STD to my whole class of juniors. Also, basically the WHOLE baseball team is in my class.
I guess I should mention that the baseball team basically runs my school. Trust me, it only took me a week to figure it out. The teachers all let them get away with everything, the girls are all in love with them, and they are all basically a bunch of annoying perverts.
"KATIE! DINNER'S READY HONEY! COME ON DOWN," my mother yelled from downstairs. I looked up from the project I had been "working on."
"OKAY I'LL BE DOWN IN ONE MINUTE," I called down.
"DID I SAY DINNER WOULD BE READY IN ONE MINUTE? NOW KATIE," my mom quickly yelled back. I slowly got up off my bed and stretched, walking down the stairs. I saw my little sister Sarah bouncing up and down i her seat at the dinner table telling my mother the latest update on her little league softball practices. That's what I wish baseball could be like at my school, her little softball team. They were all so sweet and cute and really just wanted to have fun. I ruffled her messy hair as I walked by and say down for dinner. I looked at the table, my mom had set four places at the table again. I started to pick the fourth one up, he's not coming back anytime soon.
"What're you doing Katie? That's your father's place. Set it back down on the table," my mother snapped.
I sighed and looked at her, "He's not coming back mom. He has his twenty something whore with him now."
"KATIE WATCH YOUR MOUTH. Sit down and eat the dinner I made," my mom said and turned away quickly, trying to hide the tears in her eyes. I sat back down and put the extra place setting on the table. Dinner was finished in silence, even Sarah could tell something was wrong.
At the end of dinner my mom quietly got up and walked to her room. I watched her walk the whole way up the stairs, ignoring Sarah's request to watch cartoons. I told Sarah she could go watch her TV show and preceded to clean up after dinner. When I was done it was already 8:30, Sarah's bedtime. I quickly got her ready for bed and went back to my room to finish my biology project. I could hear my mother crying in the other room but instead of apologizing for upsetting her I only put my headphones on and drowned out the sounds. I didn't know how to be able to help someone else, someone who was supposed to be my rock, feel better when I was feeling so much pain myself.

The police had finally come and were running up into the house, my mother was still holding my body, but she had long since stopped crying. I assumed she was in shock or something. She was humming my body a song and tucking it into bed. The paramedics came in and took my pulse as my mother sat stroking my hair. The two men looked and each other and the one taking my pulse gave a small shake of his head. The other one turned to address my mother, "Ms. Fadrin, we need to move the body now."
"The body?" my mother scoffed, "This isn't a body, this is my baby girl. Her name is Katie. Now she's very tired and very stressed from all her school work and needs to sleep. Did you know she is going to make honor roll this semester?" My mother continued to stroke my hair as she smiled with pride at the paramedics. One paramedic sighed and bent down so he was at the same level as my mother, "Ms. Fadrin, you're in shock, but you need to come with me now okay? My co worker here will take care of Katie."
My mother began to scream as he touched her arm, attempting to comfort her, "NO NO NO DON'T TOUCH ME! DON'T TAKE ME FROM MY BABY. SHE WOULDN'T DO THIS TO ME. SHE WOULN'T LEAVE ME ALL ALONE LIKE THIS!" My mother broke free from the paramedic holding her back, running towards my body she began to shake it as hard as she could, screaming at me to wake up. When she lifted up her arm to try to slap me awake a paramedic gave her a sedative and she slowly sunk to the ground. Her echoing sobs soon changing to weak and pathetic sounding cries. As she sunk to her knees I followed her action. Steady tears fell down my face as I looked on the mess I created. The paramedics supported my mother out of the house and into a waiting ambulance while another sealed my body up in a black body bag. I have no idea why but the sound of that zipper closing seemed to be extraordinarily loud to me. It's funny how everything that I focused on with my body; the hair I used to spend hours on, the nails I paid a small fortune to get done, and the several rings that decorated my finger, all could just be closed up and zipped away just like that. As if it was nothing, as of I was nothing. But then I looked on my mother's sleeping form getting put into an ambulance and I realized that that was the legacy I left on earth; heartache and pain, my loved ones wondering what they could have done to prevent me from making this terrible choice.
This is the moment I decided to change my legacy.A/N
