The Broken Promise

Maul's exile wasn't anything he would share with someone. In the twelve long years he spent on the junk yard planet of Lotho Minor, he had come to hate his former master, his anger for Obi-Wan Kenobi had grown, but not for the reason most believed. Yes he hated the man for maiming him and presuming him dead, although it was understandable considering the circumstances. The thing Maul hated Obi-Wan the most for, was separating the Sith Lord from his only child, from his daughter (Y/N).

During the rare moments of sanity during his time in exile. In those moments he would allow his hate and anger to fade away, and his mind to wonder to the little girl he had raised by himself. He would allow himself to imagine the woman she had become and the powerful force user she would be. He knew for sure the Jedi would have found her, probably hiding on board his ship, in the room he had dedicated to her. He knew they would have recognized her raw power and trained her as one of their own.

He imagined her to have grown in to a beautiful young woman, capable of being able to stand anything thrown her way. The conflict wouldn't be anything new to her, but she would be a powerful General and a force to be reckoned with. He wanted to imagine her happy and carefree, but knew the Jedi wouldn't allow that, instead she would be burdened with something they put on her.

Yet as his mind dove further, he remembered the past times with her. Mother Talzin, keeping her safe within the Night Sister clans when he was sent on a dangerous mission. His determination to return to her always present. (Y/N) was his princess, his reason for existing, nothing was more important to him that than her. Not even his master's orders and plans were. He could recall the many times he went on missions alone, always bringing her something back from the market towns, normally a tooka doll to add to her collection. Each doll had a name. On one occasion he took a kyber crystal from a Jedi's destroyed lightsaber, he turned into a necklace especially for her. After that every kyber crystal he took he did something with. He never told his master what he was doing with them, instead lied and said they were destroyed. When in reality Maul had created a small tiara for his princess. Gifting it to her.

Maul knew she was wearing the tiara the day he fell down the shaft. He hoped she still had it and the nickname most had called her. The Night Princess. He wanted to believe she remembered him, he hoped she would remember the promise he made her. Yet he also suspected the memories of him would be painful. She was a child the day he fell, the day he all but broke that promise twelves years prior. The first and only time he had failed her.

Yet that day was different. His brother had come. Savage. He brought word of a girl, a hologram of her as proof Mother Talzin had sent him. In that moment Maul knew who the girl pictured was, he knew that was his daughter, his princess. She had grown into a woman far more beautiful than he could have imagined. Yet his broken mind would allow him to say her name, to think of her in any way besides the little girl he was forced to leave behind. Instead his mind repeat the equally broken promise he always made and the final words he had spoken to her before leaving the ship that day.

I love you little princess and I'll always come back for you. No matter what.

His mind had tortured him far worse than anything else. Those words were his sentence for losing the battle, yet he hadn't failed his master that day, instead he had done something much worse. He had failed (Y/N), he had failed his daughter. Yet with Savage's arrival, his daughter's name lingered on his lips, a new determination a lit with him. The determination to find her again, to reunite with her and protect her in anyway he could. His final thoughts before leaving the planet of his exile being on her and making one final promise.

I'm coming for you (Y/N). Together we'll defeat any enemy.
