(A/N: I promise I never forgot about this fic even though it's been like 2-3 years since an actual update TT-TT I've been rewriting the older chapters and figuring out how to rework some of the latter ones. I'd also written some one-shot tie-ins to this fic if you may have missed those in the interim [all can be found on Ao3]
Life updates since the last June'21 chapter was posted: I've since graduated college and am working in film production, which takes up so much of my writing time, but I've had a blast the last few years! Fingers crossed that I can set a steadier schedule with updating this fic - I have it outlined all the way through Pacific Rim 2 (and retconned some things lol) so I'm genuinely so excited to tell the rest of this story.
I hope you enjoy this chapter, and stick around for future ones! <3)

Raleigh was making his way to the mess hall for some mid-afternoon grub when he noticed a slew of guards beelining towards Scramble Alley. He strained his ears to hear anything from their radios but could only catch jumbled words and static.
From what he could tell, however, there was a new buzz of excitement, not uncommon in the past month. He slowed his stride, curious, watching as a couple more staffers jogged past him and made the same turn for the 'Dome.
"Clear the hall!" came Dr. Lincoln's voice, and Raleigh pressed up against the nearest wall as he and two other nurses rolled past him with a gurney and crash cart. "Medical coming through!"
Raleigh followed the flow of foot traffic and forgot all about the mess hall. As he turned the corner, Noah Geiszler stepped off from the freight elevator, looking slightly frazzled. "What the hell is going on?" were the first words from Raleigh's mouth.
Noah's eyes widened as he spotted Raleigh. If he didn't know any better, Raleigh would've thought he'd just seen a ghost. "There was—a survivor. We're bringing a Ranger back home."

"How's she doing?" Herc asked, hands placed firmly at his waist. With a worried furrow of his brow, he watched as the med bay nurse, Cora, unstrapped the blood pressure cuff from Greyson's arm.
"BP is slightly elevated, 126 over 76," Cora replied, folding up the cuff and sliding it back onto one of the nearby carts. "Nothing too crazy but considering you've never fainted before...?" –Greyson silently shook her head at the drawn-out question— "Right. Then, I recommend she stay in observation for a few hours, or at least until she's back at baseline."
Greyson's lips turned down at the corners. Petulantly, she pressed, "But I feel fine."
"Girlie, you are going to stay here until you feel better," Cora countered. She turned to the cabinets, opening a lower one to reveal a miniature fridge, and proceeded to take out two small water bottles. "Please make sure you drink plenty of water, because it's giving... dehydration. Otherwise, I will stick you with an IV line."
"Copy that," Greyson muttered when handed a bottle. Herc accepted his with a nod, the tension in his shoulders melting away.
Cora scribbled something down on Greyson's chart before replacing it on the basket at the foot of her cot. "Link will probably swing by in a few to check on you himself, if he's not still busy with the transfer, but I'll chill down the hall if you need me."
"Much appreciated, Nurse Damaris," Herc said kindly.
"My pleasure, Marshal." To Greyson, she encouraged, "Water. Drink it."
