Chapter 1
The ever-bloom trees only bloom in the sparseness of winter, the young winter princess use to sneak out of her rooms at the castle, to watch them bloom on the winter solace. Now, as the princess ducked and weaved through the forest of ever-bloom. She did not even glace up once to enjoy the view, as she ran for her life.
"STORM", someone yelled
I pulled my head from the tattered book I have read more than ten times. I look up to see someone I have not seen since high school. Julius Campbell with his doting bride to be Elizabeth. They have been together for years. And are just in love as the day they had first met. I fold the top corner of the book down and close it. I put the book on the table and looked up at my friends that are getting closer and closer to me.
As lizzie walks towards me, I am reminded of a time when I did not know lizzie or Julius. In a time where Julius scared me. He was this defence line body builder and I was like a door mouse lizzie was this great big personality and one of the kindest people in my world at that time. I have never been confident but those two had helped me become the person I was today.
They walk up to table hand in hand. Lizzie dropped jul's hand and game me a bone crushing hug. Jul just gave me a nod; I give him a smile in return. They look at my book and give me the look. the message is loud and clear "you really need to stop rereading that book". I shift my gaze to lizzie she was more understanding her expression was more "I know why you read this book and I understand."
Julius says, "how are you stormy?"
I say, "I'm good jul how about yourself?"
Julius replied, "I could be better."
I ask, "what does that mean?"
Julius replied, "me and Elie wanted to go out with my friend Marco, but he doesn't have anyone to go out with. Would you come out with us?"
I see right through this hidden attempt. He was trying to set me up. I understand why their doing it, I love them for it, but I cannot be with a human.
I said, "jul, I can't, I'm really sorry. I am a one-man kind of girl and no matter what ash has done I am always going to love him." Picking up my tote bag and placing my book inside it. I continue, "look guys I'm really late my break ended five minutes ago."
Without waiting for their goodbyes', I darted off back to my desk, which sat outside my boss's office. Looking through the window on the door I give him an acknowledged nod. I sat there for the last five minutes reading the book from my bag. I open the book back up to the page I had marked and continued to read.
Princess coral had safely gotten away from court, away from her mother, and her brothers. Her brothers and her use to play as children. Playing, the snowflake and the Drakon. Drakon are serpent like creatures that serve as protectors to the royal family of this court. The princesses' drakon was named serendipity Sara for short. She was the palest shade of blue imaginable. The princess was going to miss her...Sara, but she knew it was best for everyone if she left.
Her brother's river and rain and the princesses twin brother storm. Storm and the princess were the closest, as thick as thieves. Storm would read to his baby sister for hours. After mab their mother began telling them the prophesy. Corals relationship with her brothers was never the same. The older they got the more the boys realized their sister would be the next queen. She'll be the air to the bloodline not any of them, the more all four of them drifted apart.
I pulled my head from my book, wiping a tear from my eye. I folded the corner down and closed the book and slid it back in my bag. I tell myself that they aren't my brothers, I am not coral. My name is storm. Storm Ever-bloom. Shaking off my mood I turn my attention to the cluttered mess of my desk. I shuffle some messages on the table, left for me while I was on break. Underneath the messages I had found a list and the work Byron had left for me to do. It was written in his messy script.
1. Please proofread "the assassins pact" by Edgar McCallister.
2. Arrange a meeting with Gwen Owens.
3. Read and notarise the manuscripts.
4. Have a great weekend!
Byron was always trying to get me to Take time off. He knew it was fleeting, but at least he cared. In truth he has been my friend for many years. before I even considered talking this job. Before I worked here, and Byron was a bigshot author and publisher he worked with me under Theodore last. Theo was a multibillionaire who owns this store as well as a few stores all over Europe. For a human he was quite honourable.
I shook my thoughts out of my head and started to complete the tasks left for me. The manuscripts were actually good this time round. They were gripping, thrilling and even a little daring. But that last one still shakes me a little. Even without reading it I can tell. I read the front page again.
"Lost and found" By Ashton Bloom.
seeing that name Ashton it pushes me back into a time I'd rather forget.
In the earliest years of the fae glade when the prophesy's created in the time of honey dew glade were being foretold, in the mere months before they became truth, the young princess coral was sitting alone beneath an ever bloom tree the day before the solstice. Picturing the beautiful pail blue of the flowers touching the darkened sky. Her older brother storm happened upon her this day. His face filling with dread, his eyes holding hate.
They were supposed to rule the kingdom together her and storm. But once word got back to mother, storm knew there would be no chance. He loved his sister with all his heart, he wished that were enough. But it was not.
Storm said scornfully, "where's your princeling sister?"
Coral replied, "off hunting I suppose"
The princess knew that was a lie as soon as she told it. In truth she does not know where her husband to be was. She was just in a moment of peace and did not dare to think of break it. in their world a woman does not have the same protections a man does. That does not stop storm tho.
Storm sniggers, "a hunt? More like a drive!" storm snorts," tulla has been serving your princeling day and night, since his 'departure' on this so called 'hunt' if you don't believe make a vale and see for yourself!"
Princess coral knew the Vale was a huge invasion of the princeling's privacy, but also knowing her brother will not leave her be until he is satisfied. She created the vale by creating a mirror our of the snow and saying the words 'til het dal op" which roughly translates to lift the vale. I then place a drop of blood in the centre of the mirror and watch as the blood gets absorbed into the mirror. Then suddenly the one I sort came into view. Sure, enough there he was exactly as storm said. With my cousin. Coral did not cry; she did not react.
coral said, "caught me. I have been covering for them both for years, they are in love and I felt like I had to help. Afterall they've been more like family than you have."
Then she walked away with her hands unknowingly protecting her stomach.
Storm was pulled from the memory by someone standing at the front of the desk. She looked up to see someone she'd rather forget.
