You were walking on the edge of mortality, your hands bound by a thread the color of gold. You were like a pair of scales, dipping towards one side and then leaning towards the other, as if you were weighing your options. For a second, your dreams reflected the duality of Earth. On one side the sky was milky with tufts of cloud canvassing the bright horizon, and the sun shone through like a sword of light breaking through the dawn. On the other side there was a vast ocean, as cruel and as unrelenting as the storm wielding it. The sea churned with violent waves and the wind crested with the dark abyss.
You blinked and the landscape changed entirely. You were in the sea now, or rather, on it, as if you were standing on the water itself. The ocean was completely calm now, not a hint of the violence you had witnessed earlier remaining. All that survived was the thunderous wails of a monster, followed by a bloodcurdling hiss, like the earth was cracking right down the middle, a fizz of hot air hissing out with its molten breath. Only, it wasn't the earth breaking -- it was two monsters colliding with one another. It was as if you had been whirled away to a completely different realm.
A world of monsters...
Amidst the chaos was a mass of writhing tentacles that emerged from the depths of the black sea; the beast was clashing with another, which appeared to be a serpent, with its serrated fangs, frills, and a tail that seemed to go on for miles. Blow after blow was exchanged until finally, the Kraken -- you assumed the tentacle monster was the Kraken -- fell to its opponent after the serpent dug its incisors into its main body.
With a single motion, the serpent devoured the Kraken whole, leaving no remains as it did. And it was only after it was finished that it turned its single eye to you -- the other had been scarred over. A translucent second pair of eyelids slid sideways in a blink, and you had to fight to keep from drowning in its entrancing sapphire eye; an eye, that was by all accounts, recognizable, but for the life of you, you couldn't pinpoint.
Again you blinked, and you were taken away to another world. This time, you were surrounded by a halo of ethereal clouds. As you examined this new environment, you failed to notice a figure approaching in the distance until their body blotted out the sun. You lifted a hand to shield your eyes from the rays of the sun to get a better look at what it was that had blocked out the light, but as soon as you did, you felt a gutted breath leave you.
Although he was hooded and his features were covered by the shadows of the sun, what you did see was a brilliant pair of raven wings extending outward. They were indescribably beautiful and so large they encompassed the sun entirely, and through the gaps of the feathers, a steady stream of golden sunlight spilled through, creating this ethereal glow around the figure. He dipped his hand into the large folds of his robes and slowly drew out a trident; it glittered under the sun, with its jewels the focal point of its beauty. Each of them were a different shade of blue, but all were just as beautiful as the last.
