My face was dripping with cold sweat. Griping my blanket I calmed my heart and slowed my breathing down. Everything was slightly fuzzy, but still clearing up. Looking around I saw the familiars of my room and that helped me calm down. It was just another nightmare. It was just another nightmare. Repeating the words didn't really work because I was just lying to myself.
Finally calm enough to stand I walked to open my window, letting in the cool breeze. feeling the fall night against my sweating face steadied me. I wish I could understand what I was being told, but I can't understand them. Even if they do speak Spanish. My eyes heavy with sleep closed lightly. Back to bed with them again.
The morning sun warmed my face, telling me its time for school. "Val let's go the bus waits for no one!" The ever so cheerful mother of mine tapped sharply on my door. Still, in bed, I could hear her footsteps to my brother's room. "AMADOR JAVIER ANOTHER GIRL!" that makes 2 out of the 6 mamas has caught. I headed downstairs greeting my father with a kiss on the head. "Buenos días papa." My father smiled and then chuckled, "That boy will never learn will he?" I cracked a smirk. We both knew that Amador had snuck girls in but we don't say anything to mama. she will gladly beat all of us with her zapatilla.
Amador barreling down the steps with the girl at his heels was almost funny. "AMADOR GET BACK HERE AHORA" "Buenos días papa" my father only smiled again. The girl quickly greeted me "uh good morning-bye" I smirked. I knew that my brother was taking her to fuck somewhere before school. Daily routine am I right. The door slammed shut just in time to ward off mama's slippers. "OO that boy will be the death of me" smirking again I left for school.
"Your DNA test results have come in. So we will each look at them and anyone who is comfortable with sharing can do so" About a month ago everyone in my class did the whole DNA test thing and now we get to see if we are really who we were born as or something. "Val here is yours." The white slip of paper was folded neatly in that blank envelope. "V open it already come on." Rosa cooed. I knew I was Hispanic but my nightmares had other words in that say. looking at my results I saw different Spanish ethnicities that made sense until the bottom result. Aztec.
"Aztec? Like that ancient civilization?" Rosa called our teacher over. "Miss? Vals results have a mistake I think." The teacher looked at me, and then at my slip. "Aztec? I don't see the problem." Rosa rolled her eyes. "Miss Val is Hispanic." The teacher smiled and looked at Rosa. "Rosa Aztecs were Spanish as well. It makes sense that Val's family would date back to some earlier Spanish settlers." She smiled again walked away.
For Lunch, I headed home. I didn't want to be around anyone. "Val your home for lunch?" I heard my father from the kitchen. "Yeah... we got our DNA results back." Dropping the paper on the table, my father picked it up. "Aztec huh? Wasn't sure if I was correct, but once again I was" I smiled. "Papa, erm, do you know what side it is from?" chuckling he said "Your mothers."
After lunch, I headed back to school. Everyone from my class was talking about their results. Some were German or had Irish. Even Bulgarian popped up once. I tried my best to not get roped into the conversations. I didn't need the feel to share my results. Not considering I, myself, was confused about who I am.
That rest of the day I spaced off into my own head. repeating the words that were spoken to me the night prior. "Ayuda" "asesina" "¡La muerte te espera!" So many phrases that retained to me, but how do I decipher them. Is there a true meaning to them or not? I only wait for the night to appear. Living in my own dreams again.
