Since the time I've been here, many girls have approached me complaining of the harassment issues they face on Wattpad.
These issues contain following cases.
1. A guy (may or may not have vulgar profile) messages and asks a girl to sext.
2. A guy, even girl, makes a defamatory account on a girl's name and spreads bad things about her.
3. A guy, even girl, has a fight with a girl so he or she releases intimate information about her on Wattpad and outside too.
4. Erotica authors promoting their books on Muslim authors' books' comment areas.
5. A hate or harassment account goes on targeting random users and abuse them on their profiles.
6. A hate or harassment account messages dirty stuff or share smut to random users related to a person on whom they charge vengeance.
7. A person specifically targeting a girl or her friends circle and harass them.
8. A user tagging a girl in a smut book.
9. A hate or harassment account opened to write abusive rants about a group of people.
All the above cases, I repeat, all the above cases happen on a regular basis and with embarrassment I've to say, many of my friends here have been the victim. Its intensity was high a couple of years back but down the line I can see it ceasing but not without learning about some of them recently.
It's completely a different case if a particular person is targeted by a hater. It's their personal problem that's roaming in the public with a bad tag and behavior adopted by any one or both of them. But when it comes to cases as mentioned in 1, 4 and 8, I tell you there is no need to get intimated by such acts.
There is exactly no need to get scared. They can't do anything to you until they don't have your pictures, phone numbers, any personal information or they are among your relatives, neighbors and friends.
You may have to go through open to sexually explicit pictures, content on their profiles, books, but there is no need to panic. Just inform your friends about such situations and asked your followers to block and report that account before they target someone within your vicinity.
There will be dogs around who roam on Wattpad to target girls so that they could get their numbers and could get do video chats with them and extracts nude pictures from them and later blackmail them. This has become an extremely disgusting trend on online social media.
Mindset of such boys/men is that there will be some women or girls around who can have same intentions and characters as they possess so they just beat around bush by sharing their contact numbers, Instagram ID so that they can get connected and continue such things.
Therefore, I advise girls not to share your personal details with anyone on Wattpad until you know the real person and you've got reference about that person from a real friend.
It's a humble advise to girls, not to connect with random boys because of their attractive profile pictures and good man description in their bio.
I've heard about cases you'd wish not to come across with even for an enemy. Such is disgust that has spread into our lives through this world class network.
Your self-respect is everything you should care about wherever you go and work or spend your time.
Please act wisely in case any of the above case happens with you and if you're being a random victim then there is no need to feel panic and stop writing or doing your productive activities. Those people know very well they are doing wrong things so, it is they who must fear not you.
