Popularity demon

chapter 4

“Thank you Laura” I say as I take my tray filled with my dinner.

I walk towards my usual table. The cafeteria is noisy with the girls chattering and the smell of food is everywhere. On the way to my table I come across Ashley’s table the airhead leader of our school who was surrounded with her airhead minions. She looks at me and smiles, I smirk at her and continue my way towards my table.

“Hey jenny” says a ginger girl as I sit at my usual place. Then there is chorus of “Hi Jenny” from everyone.

Ugh! Who is the ginger girl? And why is she sitting at my table?

“Hey!” I reply faking a smile at her.

I start eating my dinner without bothering about the conversation taking place around me because I was sure it was about the guys at the boys section.

As I take the last bite of the pizza slice a girl comes up to me.

“Um jenny? Coach is calling you to his office now.” she says.

“Now?” I ask in a bored tone.

“Yea! He says it’s important.”

I groan and stand up.

“Hey guys, coach’s calling me, I’ll head straight to the dorm after that. Bye!” I say to all the girls sitting with me. They all reply back to me in a chorus.

And who is that ginger?

After walking through long corridors I finally come to coach’s office. I knock before entering. Coach’s back was turned towards me and he was searching through some files.

“Um sir? You called me?”

“Ah yes jenny, I called you to inform you that the interschool badminton championship is coming up next month and we need 2 students representing our school, since you won the championship held at our school I thought maybe I will nominate you. What do you think?” coach asks me, and continues.

“It will be a good opportunity, besides you wouldn’t have to worry about missing classes, the practice is only after schools over.”

“I mean I don’t have any problem with it, I think I’d love to do it.”

“You think?” he asks quirking an eyebrow.

“No I am sure I can do it.” I reply nodding my head whilst smiling

“Well that’s what I was expecting.” Coach says ginning. “Come to my office tomorrow at twelve, you’ll get your jersey and you will meet your teammate he plays pretty well.”

“He? You mean he is a boy?” I ask confused.

“Nah he is a girl, of course jenny he stands for boys don’t you know that?”

“I do know it, it’s just that I thought I was being paired up with a girl.”

“Each school has to send a boy and a girl. Don’t  worry he is a bit cocky and stuck up but a really nice player, he doesn’t know yet that he is going to be paired up with a girl we’ll give him a surprise tomorrow.” Coach says smiling as he searches for something in his drawer.

“Well, I just want to play and win. If he is cocky so be it.” I say playing with a paperweight on coach’s table.

“That’s the spirit, so meet me tomorrow okay?”

“Okay.” I reply and exit the office closing the door behind me.

A guy? Do I really want to play with stuck up and cocky guys? What if he doesn’t like me? What if he is better than me? I have never stayed with a guy of my age long enough to know his name, how will I stay with  him for the whole championship? Argh! Why does this happen with me? Why couldn’t I be paired with a girl? I hope I don’t freak out once I meet him! What if he is logan lerman hot? Jocks are supposed to be hot aren’t they? What if he is fat and ugly? Nah ugly and fat guys are not stuck up and cocky! Oh god just help me through this!
